FIRST TRUMPET

The first ever blown trumpet, fear mixed with confusion was the only thing heard on the earth's surface during that day. Trees that scorched on fire and the boiling blood that spilled itself from the heavens upon the humans as punishment, and grass that turned to dust before everyone's eyes. Escaping wasn't a possibility, it was a outcome, a outcome that couldn't be dodged by merely praying or asking for forgiveness anymore. It could only be described as a unavoidable event, a march for a new beginning.

Humans had to adapt to the situation, grow as people, sin less. After the first trumpet incident humans significantly started sinning less, laws were made strict and the amount of people dying per day was noticeably less than before the incident. But avoiding sin wasn't the only thing we needed to fear, it was the soldiers sent by god to roam earth, "Angels", as they called them. They didn't own a body of their own, they were simply a sphere without thought, they didn't speak, move nor act, they needed a host.

The "Angels" took control of a sinners body, infiltrating their mind and turning them into puppets, their only sole purpose to erase other sinners and rise in hierarchy. Their now controlled body, pale as marble and the their eyes dark, speech disoriented from any known human language, and their aging completely stopping. It was simple, avoid sinning and commit yourself to god, right? No. The "angels" were like a disease, they spread and killed everyone in sight that had sinned in their life or were against gods word. The now controlled humans killed and tore of other humans limbs, using them as their own, ripping away their arms and legs and connecting them to their new puppet like body with their angelic blood that had the properties to be considered glue. Small towns and villages were erased out of existence in mere minutes, it was a disease, a disease that wouldn't stop. Humans had to protect themselves somehow, learn how to avoid.

Multiple months after the incident had already millions died, but a important lesson learned. Humans could protect themselves by covering their body with the mark of god, a cross, embodied to their body. Some wore the mark in clothing, dressing in large cloaks and robes and religious accessories. Others didn't want to worry about possibly forgetting to wear the mark, so with babies and anyone under the age or 18, it was common for a blade to be struck against their chest, forcing a shallow cut to resemble a cross. The cut was indeed shallow, but with a deep meaning.
