Chapter 2

Isabel

My birthday was 3 months ago and I haven't gotten my power yet. I'm scared, I could be...powerless. No, I can't be my whole family has powers so it's not possible right?

I'm just getting ahead of myself I sure everything is fine-

"Isabel?" Roman asked.

I can't get a second to think in this house

"yeah what's up?" I looked at my brother.  "Mom needs you outside for something" He said.

she probably needs me for chores again, since I don't have any powers like the rest of my family, they have put me on house duty. I walked downstairs to go outside.

"Mom? Roman said you asked for me".

"oh yeah come here sweetie.." she said in a sadden voice.

"mom is everything alright? you sound sad?" I said

"Look, Isabel its been 3 months and you still don't have a power.."

"yeah mom I know" I looked down to stop myself from crying

"Look sweetie, I never wanted this to happen this way, you know that right?" she looks at me with sadden eyes,

"Wanted what mom? What's happening??" I say with a confused but worried face.

all of a sudden my mother pulls put a paper and shows it to me. My face goes white.

"W-what...Mom? No! I won't go to the Kings camp!" I looked at her with anger and hurt.

My mom pulls away the paper, she starts to get more angry as I speak.

"Listen young lady! you haven't gotten your powers yet and you probably never will" she looked at me with such disappointment. "Your brother got his power when he was 12! Why can't you be more like him?" She said with full wishfulness.

"How could you say that mom? Just because I don't have a power I have to be sent to a camp where you guys will never see me again? I won't go!" I say with sadness. I can't believe my mother just said that, I knew Roman was her favourite but I never knew she could say it out loud.

"Look! You are useless! you can't make us any money because you have no powers! You are so useless! You are going to that camp and that's final! Be ready tomorrow morning!" She said with so much anger. I stood there shocked, who could my own mother do this to me? I can't leave for that camp, I'll die there. I need to run away tonight. I ran upstairs and packed a few clothes, nothing too heavy, I had to walk a lot. After everyone was asleep I opened my window and jumped through it. Here we go. All alone because my family doesn't want me. 

Finally, after 5 hours of walking a made it to an abandoned mall, hopefully there is some food there, I'm starving. I walked into the mall to find it to still have lights still, that's weird why would something truly abandoned have lights? I'm walking through the first floor when I noticed a food aisle, I ran to it and picked up as much snacks/food items I could have without an oven or microwave.

I see protein bars which will be great for when I'm walking. All of a sudden I hear a talking, quickly I behind a shelf; peeking my head up to seek what they're talking about. I see about 3 boys about my age and they don't know I'm here (yet). I hear them talking about the camp they stay at for kids that have ran away from home or don't have a power and as I'm listening, my food falls out of my hand and on the ground and causes a long bang making the 3 boys turn their heads in my direction.

"Who is that" The first boy whispered to his friends.

"I don't know, should we see?' The second answers back.

"What if they're dangerous" The third one snips back.

'It's 3 against 1 I think we are good" The second one says sarcastically.

As soon as they step closer to me, a girl pops up behind them, she says "Such bitches it's a girl don't be a pussy". The three boys turn their heads to look at the aisle I'm in. I hear them whispering, "Its a girl" The first one says. As they are talking between themselves about me, the girl pulls me out from hiding.

"hey" I said worried because I don't know what the capable of. The three boys look at each other and look back at me,"You look our age" They say together. 

"Im 16 and I didn't mean to run into you guys I just need some food and ill be on my way" I say as fast as I can, hopefully I can just leave without any problems.

"Why are you alone?" The girls says in a comfortable tone.  I'm alone because my mother forced me to go to a camp where I have to work for this stupid King, but I can't say that so instead I say "Oh I don't have a family, I'm orphan". 

"Oh, I'm sorry I didn't know, I'm Brianna, and these 3 boys are Sam, Lucas, and Mattheo."

I look at the boys when Brianna explains their names to me. Maybe I could use their help with finding a place I could stay in...

"I'm Isabel" I say with a smile.

"So what is your power? Sam has healing powers, Lucas has light manipulation powers and Mattheo has mind control".

Shit shit shit shit. I don't have any powers what are they going to say?? It's fine stay cool.

"And I have the power to control water" Brianna says happily.

"Wait so you can blood bend?" I say very fast because if she could that would be so cool!!

"No, sadly that's only for shows" She laughs.

"Oh damn that would have been really cool" I say smiling.

"So Isabel what's your power?? Let me guess...Air manipulation? Earth manipulation?? Energy manipulation? Ooo that would be really cool". Sam says very excitedly, even though he doesn't know that I don't have any powers. I'm supposed to tell these people that don't have powers. What would they think of me? They kick me out of their friend group?

"Umm....I kinda don't have a power." I say with a frown on my face. They all stop walking and look at me with such a comfort look, I almost trust them fully, but I can't imagine know I can't at least not now. They have powers, I don't. I need help but should I trust them?

Mattheo smirks at me. "Isabel"  I turn to look at them and so does the group.

'Yeah what's up?" I say looking for the answer.  

"I can hear your thoughts, you don't have to be scared of us" He smiles again. Oh great, I can't think about anything without Mr. in my thoughts knowing what I'm thinking.

He smirks. This son of a bitch is smiling when I'm trying not to spit every secret in my mind right now.  "Look Isabel, we come from a camp that helps Orphans like yourself and us and I think that you should come because you know that staying outside by yourself isn't safe". Brianna tells me with a concerning face as she turns to open the door from the mall so we can walk in the direction. I nod, while looking at her maybe I can have a fresh start here. Maybe these people can actually help me all I know is that I have to make sure that I don't get caught.
