By the sea

Symphony Part 1

I sit on the beach with my feet in the sand and think about how this used to be grandma and granddads favorite place before they left. I wipe a tear from my eye as I watch the waves splash on the beach in q calming motion.

"Dylan!"

A voice calls me from the distance and I perk my head to see who it is and it was my mom and her new boyfriend Mark. Mom usually gets a new boyfriend every week and they all keep leaving her, all without a valid reason, I just assumed she would stop but she just keeps on going and getting one after another.

"Honey! Why are you so far away from the family?" she asks and I just look back at the sea

"It's calming"

"Come on Dylan you can not be here all alone on this empty beach"

"It wouldn't be so empty if you didn't bring us here during a school day"

"Be greatful that you get to come to the beach at all, some children don't even have parents to bring them to the beach"

I scoff and walk with them back to where everyone was sitting. Jessica was sitting there playing with sand buckets making sand castles. I ly on the sand next to Jessica and stare into the beach thinking about when life wasn't like this, when life was nice and sometimes fun. I look again into the sea and I remembered all the memories I made with my dad before he passed away in that car accident.

"Jess are you having fun?"

"Yeah, I'm making sand castles for me and Milo to live in"

"As long as your having fun, then I'm having fun"

I smile as I get up from my spot and head towards the car to go fetch some more supplies but before I can reach I see another family stop in the parking lot. I take a peek at them from the car and see them be so happy and jittery about coming to the beach when there is nobody else there. I grab the stuff and run back to the beach but as I ran back I tripped on a rock and fell down a hill.

"Ow Ow Ow...puff puff puff"

Freaking sand! I immediately get up and collect all the stuff that were scattered all over the sand some even under it. I started shoving the sand everywhere looking for most of the supplies.

"Do you need any help?"

A voice asked from a tower figure in front of me and I looked up to see a boy who looked my age with a light tan.

"Do YOU want to help me, look for my stuff?"

"Sure, why not!"

"Uhm okay"

"So what are we looking for?"

"Uhm anything that's looks like beach supplies"

"Oki"

He gets to my level and stance and starts to help look for the missing objects. I looked at him in the eyes and he seemed passionate about helping me find my stuff and that bought a little smile to my face...he noticed.

"Why are you smiling?"

"It's nothing"

"No it's definitely something"

"Okay I will tell you, but in a form of a question"

"Uhm okay"

"Why are helping me?"

"Oh I... thought you looked angry and then you also dropped your stuff then I couldn't help but to come and help you"

"Oh thanks by the way"

"No problem, I will help you any day you like me to"

I smile at his gesture as we finally find the last piece that we were looking for. We get up and both dust the sand off of our bodies but I did the most. He gives me a small smile of satisfaction and starts to walk off, I stare at him. Before he could get any further he turns back and looks at me.

"My name is Luke, by the way"

"I'm Dylan"

"Well Dylan we are going to be here till sunset so if you haven't left and you wanna hang just come to me, okay"

"Yeah, I'll come"

I watch him disappear and I start to feel a tingle in my chest, what was this feeling, I brushed it away. I went back to my family with all the supplies and Mom just looked at me and shrugged, while my sister laughed at me. I silently flipped her off so that my mom and her boyfriend dont here me. I sat with them and the time flied very fast and I remembered what that boy had said.

"Mom can I go the these people on the other side of the hill?"

"Only if your sister can go with"

"But mom"

"No sister, no go"

"Okay she can come with"

"Yes!" she softly screams

"Let's go Jess"
