"What's your name? Considering we're on this journey together till death.. I figure we might as well try to get along, I'm Daniel." He smiles at me, our hands now apart. She rolled her eyes , no interest in sharing her name with the boy who had left her to die. His mouth makes a sort of sigh and yawn mixed, giving off the impression he didn't like her attitude. He seemed around two years older than her, and she was twenty-one. Everything had happened so quickly for her since the age of sixteen, she had been chased out of her village and marked an outsider, forever on the hide from the horizon, now that the chase was over and she had been found. So what purpose did she have? Not telling this creep her name? Reaching the Death Valley just to be killed? She no longer understood anything, everything in her mind had been changed. Her sanity was back temporarily and the worst part, was she understood that she was insane, which meant it hurt her to be doing the things she does when she 'turns'. But, she can't control it. All she considered of herself was an animal. She was an animal. A wild cougar, a un-tame lion.. She'd have liked to be called either of those things, but, no. In her pathetic, messed up mind, she was simply a stupid mutt that couldn't understand that their tail would never be caught..
"Gonna tell me then?" Daniel announced, bringing her out of her daydream and back into reality.
"Eve." She said coldly. Daniel shook his head.
"That's not your name." He boldly said, the reply being a slap to his face.
"I think I know what my name is!" Eve shouted at him, loosing her temper. She crossed her arms, pouting slightly like a child, he sighed, rubbing the red mark on his cheek from her hand.
"It's hot.." He mumbled. Eve shrugged, giving the same gloomy look he gave to her. They continued walking, Daniel mumbling things about his family, his life all destroyed because of this stupid horizon. Eve just kept silent, not wanting to speak to him, all she had discovered from this trip so far was some people have no respect, but in a time of need, they will dote upon you. And it's your decision to help them or not. In her case, she so far had decided to not help unless he was of use to her. Which, also so far was not the case. He was only slowing her down her mind repeated.
By mid-day they reached an old village, surrounded by desert like the rest of the planet. They bought some food, Eve bought a white dress, it suiting her slim figure perfectly, Daniel stared at her while she spun around in it, talking to the shop keeper, she had braided her hair. The owner of the shop, an old lady had given her a small rose to put in her hair, it looked perfect. And Daniel was regretting leaving her to die ten times more every second he watched her move, talk or even breath, but what took his breath away the most was her laugh. It made others smile, bringing pink to their cheeks in love.
Daniel thought about it some more, having never experienced these feelings before, he wondered what it was exactly he was feeling. He decided he'd look more into it later, the problem at the moment being it was drawing into nightfall, they needed to find a place far away from here so they wouldn't be a danger to this town.
Eve thanked the lady once more, hugging her gently then smiling as she said goodbye, also worried about the new race she had entered. The race against time. She hurried after Daniel, unsure of why he was avoiding her even more than she was avoiding him. She realised that it wasn't an overall nice feeling to be avoided, so she'd make a point of not doing it to people often. When she finally caught up with his quick walking, she noticed his pale skin was red from the cheek up to the edge of his eye. She smirked, maybe he'd seen a girl in that village he liked, there were so many divine things there like the dress and the flowers. Oh , and the people. She made a mental note to forever visit that town if she got over this 'problem' of hers.
Daniel found a cave about seven miles away from the village, he placed a large boulder in front, so that they couldn't leave until morning when the people of the village collected their water from this spot. They laid down, although they were hidden from the horizon, it had already effected their minds, so they both prayed that they could sleep peacefully. They rolled over, both asleep.
