It all happened rather quickly, from tumbling down the subway stairs to missing the train. These two were nothing abnormal for you— who more often than not found yourself in a questionable position— but were also the last things you needed on a day like this. Your boss had a big company meeting today with the other branches and you, holding all the important files just so happened to lose them to the unknown murky substances on the subway floor."Fuckin' dumbass." a voice on your right blurted out tauntingly, followed by a snort.
You stared in shock at the company's papers now sprawled across the floor, half soaking wet and the remainding sheets on the tracks. Normally, you would've shot back a witty remark or even just a dirty look, but the amount of emotions running through you didn't allow you to register what the man said. A vibration in your pocket sent you back to your feet in an instant, and without hesitation you rubbed your dirty hands on your pants. Huffing in defeat, you picked up.
"Y/N, do you know what time it is? I mean seriously— we've been talking about this meeting for how long? You know this means everything for the company and you just had to blow it! What god awful shitty excuse could you possibly have now?"
You glanced down at the papers, then at the homeless man who insulted you moments ago, the heat across your cheeks only spreading further. With a beat sigh you hung up the call. You knew it wasn't worth showing up in your current state: hands and knees scratched, hair somehow horribly disheveled, and hot tears streaming down your bright red cheeks. It was a shit-show to say the least.
So there you were, walking down the bustling streets of manhattan with no job and covered in train water.
