One Week Later

Chelsea, London

Dusk was approaching, casting a melancholic hue over the sky. I gazed through the tinted windows of the car, resting my head against the seat and closing my eyes. The journey concluded shortly thereafter.

As I stepped out of the Mercedes, a pang of longing hit me. I missed my old home, my cherished bedroom.

No worries, I'll make a space of my own here too...

Facing the imposing mansion, I felt a twinge in my left shoulder, reminding me of my injury. I almost forgot someone was watching me.

"Don't move your shoulder too much...come in with me." His voice, with an undertone of urgency, broke my trance.

"Yeah..."

As I explored the mansion, its interior design felt increasingly familiar. The elegance of the décor reflected his impeccable taste. It was as cozy as the coziest place on earth.

"I think you're liking it here, aren't you?" he asked, walking beside me.

"Of course, it's simply wonderful."

I knew he'd smile, and I returned the gesture without looking at him.

"Let's go upstairs."

"Okay..."

The first room upstairs was the largest. Even with my glasses on, I didn't recognize the photo until I stepped closer. It was taken a week ago, on our wedding day-perhaps the only photo where I genuinely smiled, despite nothing feeling right that day.

Smiling, I placed it back. I had a burning question, but he spoke first.

"I've arranged separate rooms for us, but we can share this bedroom if that's okay."

"That'd be great, but can I use the other room as my study?"

"Why not? You can reorganize it as you wish."

"Thank you so much. I'll have a great time here...the whole place is majestically awesome."

"Thanks to you then." He smiled.

I looked at him, puzzled.

"Um, sorry?"

"Your company designed this interior years ago."

"ALEXA?!" I was astonished. He nodded.

"Oh, maybe I designed this...that's why it seemed so familiar?"

"Perhaps. I bought the land because it's quiet and I can spend time here. It's been about five or six months since it became my permanent home."

"Wow, maybe we were destined to meet like this."

"Yeah...fate is always beautiful, to be honest."

I wished it truly was, so I nodded.

After changing and freshening up, I felt hungry. Just then, he entered the bedroom.

"Let's have dinner. Come with me."

"Yeah...okay."

Following him, I realized we weren't heading to the dining hall.

"I thought we'd go to the dining hall?"

"Dining halls feel boring without family, so there's an alternative here."

We reached a wide corridor on the second floor, with large windows offering a view of the surrounding trees. The golden rays of hanging lights created a regal atmosphere. A small dining table was set with my favorite dishes-chicken sandwiches, seasoned beef, ramen, salad-with apple juice and ice cream for dessert. I couldn't wait to dig in.
