"If I'm not a mother, then what am I?" She said as she stared into the eyes of the creature standing before her, her hands red from the blood of her own daughter.

Salem, October 22nd, 1660

Luana Dreide Creedmore, an ordinary 26 year old woman, was walking through the village, her 9 year old daughter Delilah skipping over the cobbled road behind her. From the village square, she heard screaming and the crackling of fire. Another innocent young woman being burned to death in these horrific witch hunts. To save her daughter from having to witness such cruelty, Luana grabbed Delilah by the hand, pulling her into an alley that led to their house.

Delilah clinged to her mother fearfully. Luana lovingly stroked her daughter's hair in an attempt to soothe her. The alley was quite dark and abandoned. "It's okay. Nothing is going to happen. I'm here, aren't I?" Luana whispered. Delilah nodded and slowly let go of her mother. After a minute or so, Delilah finally build up the courage to bypass her mother, taking on a quicker pace. Luana soon lost sight of her daughter, but wasn't worried. The village was a safe place. Unless you were accused of being a witch.

After several minutes, Luana heard a scream escape her daughter's mouth. In a panic, she ran deeper into the alley, desperate to find Delilah. And she did.The basket with her groceries fell out of her hand, clattering on the cobbled floor of the alley. Delilah's ice cold body was laying on the ground, 2 holes in her neck where her artery was located. Luana dropped to her knees, sobbing into her hands.

She heard a loud thud behind her and turned around, her ears perked up and her tearfilled eyes scanning the alley. Whoever killed Delilah couldn't be far. In the darkness, she could barely detect the silhouette of a dark figure. Two piercing red eyes stared back at her, burning holes into her soul.

A sense of fear filled her, but she was not about to leave Delilah's body behind. "What did you do to her?" Luana inquired, her voice hoarse and quivering. "You took everything from me. Why? Why?!" She cried out. The creature shrugged. "I was hungry. Besides, what do you care?" "If I'm not a mother, then what am I?" She said as she stared into the eyes of the creature before her, her hands red from the blood of her own daughter.

"Then you are nothing." The creature lunged forward, his fangs shimmering in the moonlight. As it got closer, Luana could finally identify the creature. The pale skin, the fangs... This was a vampire. She didn't move as the vampire sunk his teeth into her skin. He was right. She was nothing without Delilah.
