Have you ever had a crush... one that didn't even feel like a crush? Because your feelings were so intense, and the butterflies in your stomach were so frequent that you thought: maybe, just maybe, this is love? Well, that's what Amara Green did to me. She did it every single day of my life.

Amara Green. The name echoed in my mind as I watched her at the front of the class, as she presented her PowerPoint on E-safety with a grin that never seemed to grow old.

My green eyes trailed over her carefully as I took in the oh-so-familiar features that I had become accustomed to. That beautifully clear dark skin, those lovely chocolate coloured eyes, that natural mess of short curls that she kept cut short, and those amazing lips...

Amara, or Am as everyone seemed to call her, had never really noticed me after Primary School, but even then we were never exactly the best of friends. Everything from her stories of her infamous road-trips she and her sister and friends went on every holiday to the rumours about her legendary parties, where half of the people who were invited couldn't even remember.

With prom coming up in a few months, there only seemed to be one thought on my mind when it came to Am, and that was which boy she'd choose to go with.

Because a girl like me wouldn't have a chance with a girl like her, not in a lifetime.
