It had been about two weeks since Elena had taken her shadow off. She had been taking the freedom in earnest, and with her time, she did what she started off on this island doing: exploring. Elena wanted to know every part of this island. This was her home now. The boys were her family. Pan was the only one who knew the island inside and out, and she wanted that for herself. She wanted to connect with the home she had made for herself and so many others. She had been in Neverland for a long time now, and she was excited to explore every inch of the place now that she could.

Elena ventured everywhere. At crocodile creek, she learned that it was indeed possible for there to be more crocodiles than water in a living space. She spent a day talking to them (with no response) and feeding them hunks of meat she had transformed from rocks. That was the first time she had ever gotten a result from imagining something on this island using none of her own magic. The island was accepting her ideas. Her passion. Her input.

More time was spent running in forests with no name. She often took Felix along with her for these times. They would disappear for days going on weeks at a time. She learned a lot about him and him her. Felix wasn't used to having such a good friend outside of Peter Pan. It was relieving to have a different perspective. To be equals with more than one lost kid.

*Flashback*

Elena spoke up first. It was a quiet night, and her and Felix were lost. Neither one wanted to go back to camp. It was too peaceful, surrounded by the sounds of nature.

"So....Why did you follow Pan here? You were the first. Not influenced by music. Not taken by a shadow. And, not to be obvious, not really a kid anymore. You're in the same boat as Pan and I with that one."

Felix took a deep breath and sighed. He hasn't shared that story in decades. He took a long look at Elena, deciding if he should trust her and the decision didn't take long. She's been different since the start. Good for the island, and as much as they don't want to admit it, good for Pan.

"When I was really young, my sister got sick. Really sick. She didn't make it. And, my parents, they decided it was all my fault. I couldn't find work that young, and we couldn't afford proper treatment. All my life, I was constantly reminded of how I wasn't good enough. How I killed my sister. They punished me for being the one that lived. I turned 17 and was walking out the door never to turn back when they started throwing things at me. When my dad got his knife out, I knew I would have to fight. I killed him and left my mom to her own. Every day, this scar on my face serves as a reminder of how sorry they were that I existed."

Elena gave Felix a heartfelt look then. She reached out and gently placed her hand on top of his in a nurturing way. Nodding as an encouragement for him to continue.

"I met Pan a couple of months after that. I had seen him around. My world was often the one he visited when he was feeling lonely or bored. He saw the state I was in and asked me if I wanted to come back to his island with him. Where there were no rules. No jobs. No parents. I haven't looked back since I took his hand that day, and I don't regret making Neverland my home. Especially now, where there's room for so many lost children to have a home here too."

The night stayed quiet after that confession. Both Felix and Elena were enjoying the sounds of the island.

*End Flashback*

Pan didn't appreciate how close Elena and Felix had gotten. They became very close friends, and it was obvious. They had inside jokes, went exploring together, and both worked to help the rest of the boys with camp and when they went out. Pan would ask Felix to do more and more stuff with him and for him so he couldn't have that much time with Elena. As for her, Pan completely cut her off after hers and Felix's first long trip away. He wouldn't do much more than look at her or gesture to her for something. He had convinced himself it was because he created Neverland, and she had no right to take everything he built from him. Felix was his first lost boy. But somewhere deep down. Somewhere Pan often ignored, was something different. Had he missed his chance? Was Elena falling for Felix? Was he going to be alone again? Was he going to have to be happy for his best friend and the most beautiful, feisty, curious girl he has ever known?
