I stumble off of Citrine Black, but I dealt good damage. Her black tight bun is a mess, there are nail and claw marks on her neck and arms, and her eyes are filled with fear and pure, undiluted anger.
"We really should be glad you're almost eighteen." She snarls. "The sooner I get you either killed or away, the better."
"I can say the same." I growl at her.
"Get her out of my sight."
I get dragged up and away when I notice my Venus Flytrap. The thing is as tall as half my body and I shudder at the memory of how it acquired strange properties of growth. In the center of the platform, we're brought back up to the hallway we were last in and a stern looking middle aged man glares at me before barking orders at the lackeys.
"She'll go with me from here on forth."
They nod absentmindedly and leave me with the guy. I watch them leave before turning to the man and spit to the side after he slaps me.
"What the fuck was that for?"
I wanted to snap, to yell, but my voice is small. Surprisingly small. I feel like I always did when Aqua would 'smack some sense' into me.
"Smacking sense into you, young lady."
I look up at the man and his expression softens.
"You're different from your brother; don't try to pick up where he left off."
"I'm not trying to be the same shit he was." I frown. "Why is that everyone's first impression? I haven't seen him for practically a decade!"
Oh, now I find my voice. Now I do.
"Now, come with me."
"I don't think so!" Miss Delight snaps, jogging over.
She doubles over trying to catch her breath and as she sets her hands on her knees, she glares up at the man.
"She went through enough, dad, don't."
"Angelina, what did I tell you about getting hurt for these kids?"
"I can't just stand back and let it happen!" She shrieks.
Her eyes flare red and her hair floats for a bit before she clears her throat, regaining her posture.
"Dad, stop."
"Fine." Mr. Delight rolls his eyes.
"Onyx, meet my father, Felix. Dad, Onyx, Ak- Aquamarine's sister."
Mr. Felix Delight looks at me, scrutinizing me the way Oliver, Theodore and Winston were when I first got here yesterday, and I shudder a bit.
And now I'm their friend.
"Professor Felix Delight, pleasure to meet you."
"Anything but that on my part." I frown.
"You didn't knock sense into her, did you?" Miss Delight looks suspiciously at her dad.
He mirrors her look and I see the suddenly striking resemblance. Well, now I know where she gets her luxurious looking wavy brown hair. She and her father share the same facial features, features that look like they only need to be happy and anything but the suspicious staring contest in front of me at the moment.
"So, what if I did?"
"You seriously need to stop with that. Jett, I get, but Onyx? She's seventeen."
"You're twenty and you're still an idiot."
"Says the idiot himself."
And then a five-year-old Hellhound scampers up to us, climbing on Miss Delight's back. He has a nice scent, mixed with Miss Delight's, Professor Delight's and another nostalgic scent alongside his own scent. His eyes are a weird shade of honey and cyan. He has unruly black hair and the tips of his ears and tail are a soft aquamarine.
