Lando doesn't understand why Briar doesn't take him seriously.
He hasn't ever made it seem as if what he's said to her is a lie of some sort, yet she continues to believe he's joking.
She'll brush off his comments, laugh at them, ignore them, or just straight up shut them down.
And Lando, of course he can take a hint, but this is Briar, the girl he's dedicated to since he was a prepubescent boy, dreamt of hearing wedding bells with, and although he won't admit it, Briar is the only girl he can envision himself with living the picket fence dream.
It's not like this is a phase, it's been far too long for it to be.
He knows that he's not the best when it comes to expertise in romance, but he's done quite a lot, and it hurts, so terribly, that Briar thinks it's just a joke.
How would he even go about proving that he's serious, she's known him long enough, and yet, she's unconvinced.
Briar's the first girl he's ever bought flowers for, he's bought her Louboutins that she'd talked about to him endlessly years ago with his first formula 1 paycheck, even before his sisters.
It hurts the very core of his heart, sharp pangs of a million knives acutely needling at him, but Lando would rather suffer through an eternity of torture than remove, or even distance himself from Briar, because without her, Lando is incomplete.
And Lando has seen the way her feline eyes stare at him, dark orbs glinting with the same intensity he knows his own eyes hold when he looks at her.
He's seen her smile, unrestrained when she's with him, and he's seen the softest of quirks of her lips, gentle as she looks at him do the strangest of things.
He knows he has a chance, that if she's not in love with him, that if her meaningful glances are only platonic, there's still a chance he can change her mind, convince her of his feelings.
And even if it hurts, even if it doesn't seem like there's any chance of something happening soon, Lando is anything but a quitter, and how can he quit Briar, when she's the centre of his attention, the very thing that holds his being together, because without the sun in the solar system, catastrophic destruction would take place, and in Lando's universe, she's his very sun.
