Prologue

My parents were poor, it's always been that way. We lived in a small house up in the mountains not far from the village below, occasionally going down to buy things that we couldn't make or find. Fishing, wood cutting, and scourging for berries, were all things that we did daily so that we could afford even the cheapest of things.

Even then, my parents were cocky people. But if somehow they were lucky enough that one of their children could receive a good blessing, their poverty would be far behind them. So the night I received my blessing, they were over the moon, boasting and laughing at families who didn't receive a blessing that year. Praising me and parading me around as if I were a god myself.

That's the kind of people they were.

And although was improving slowly, from a drop of water to a cup in two years, my parents were still optimistic. If I could control water I could eventually control the rivers and seas and by the time that happens, I'll probably be fought over by the top guilds, and be one of the most powerful people in Arkweth.

After all, it's very rare to receive a blessing, let alone an elemental blessing.

But then I hit my limit.

A cup. That's all I could manage.

No matter how hard I tried, how much I trained, and how often I did it, it couldn't change the fact.

All my family's hopes and dreams of fame and money were shattered.

My father grew angry when I reached my limit, after a year of no progress he said I was useless and why I was given such a blessing. Blaming me for being the reason why they were now the laughingstock of the village, and he cursed at the stars and cursed at me kicking me out of the small house we owned for a month.

My mother had to convince him to let me back in, although she was just as disappointed. In return, I wasn't allowed out of the house and was treated as a servant.

After a while, I left for good, only returning every couple of days

My younger sister was now our family's last hope and she made sure I wouldn't forget. In the beginning, whenever we went to pray to the stars she would give me a taunting look, and whenever they went somewhere without me she would recount the entire thing even if it was just to go to the market to buy bread.

The taunting lasted three years and in the end, she never received a blessing, perhaps she could've but life had another path for her.

The village bonfire at the bottom of the mountain went out of control, I knew a house in the mountain forest wasn't going to last for 30 years. And so, that night my family was engulfed in flames, perhaps that was just payback to my father for cursing at the stars.

Luckily that night I was sleeping in my little home under the Willow tree next to the bank, like I usually did whenever there was a bonfire or fireworks. I couldn't stand loud noises, and after all, I would rather stay as far away as possible from my 'loving family'.

The villagers worked quickly to restrain the fire, but not fast enough to save my family and what I once called home. And since everything in the area was burnt, no one found any bodies, so I guess they must've thought that I was also dead.

No one saw me that much anyway, the last time I went to the village was when I went to steal some saplings for my small farm because my parents never made my portion of food. Apparently, it would be a waste to give me any.

If anybody asked about me, my parents would say that I was sick, or training with my blessing. Although, they rarely mentioned anything about me and my blessing. I guess they were embarrassed that I had a useless gift.

The only reason why I knew about them telling others that I was badly sick was when one of my friend's parents went to our house to ask about me. That time I was nine, and had only just realised the limit to my power. No one asked about me after that.

Life without them wasn't very different, the only difference was that there would be nowhere for me to stay when there was a storm, or when the river flooded. And, when I was 13, half a year after my family's deaths, I decided that there was no reason for me to stay around the small village, so I left.

(This is the beginning of the 'Star Child', and also one of my many story ideas . If you liked it and think I should continue, please leave a comment or just 'star' it so that I know. Thank you :))
