"ANDREAS." KAIROS' VOICE WAS BUT A WHISPER AS HE REPEATED THE NAME, it's syllables slipping delicately off his tongue.

The merman smiled sweetly as he ran a tender hand down the side of Captain Hayes' face. The captain let out a gasp as he felt Kairos' warm fingers stroke along the heated flesh of his cheek, a strange sense of peace flowing through him at the sensation.

Even if it was all just the potent effect of a siren song, a deceitful magic fogging over his mind, it was worth it. To feel what he felt now, the pleasure of another man — more than that, a creature from the deepest and darkest depths of the ocean — was worth losing oneself in. But this didn't feel like a spell. At least, not like the one before. What Andreas was feeling felt real. It felt like want and devotion and passion.

Little did he know, Kairos felt it too. The burning in his heart that had been longing for this very moment. It wasn't a spell. At least, not one he had cast. For the first time in his life, he truly wanted a mate. Someone who could love him as deeply as he loved the oceanic water.

"Kairos." The pirate returned his words in the form of his partner's own name, a whisper on his lips. It was the first time he had spoken it and it felt like honey to the merman's keen ears.

With his lover in his arms, Captain Hayes felt his mind begin to slip, his thoughts scattering as he let the tide of his own emotions carry him along. He felt delicate scales under his fingertips as he brushed them along Kairos' skin and buried his head into the crook of his neck, inhaling the intimate scent of the sea.

Kairos whined and groaned as Andreas began to increase his thrusts, pushing inside him with more force than before. His hands moved over the smooth, silken skin covering Andreas' lean body, his long fingers caressing the smooth, creamy contours of the pirate's shoulders, his chest, his belly. His fingers came to rest there, pressing against his abdomen as Andreas snapped his hips into him.

They rocked together in a rhythm that sent sparks of desire racing through them. Kairos felt himself being taken over by the intoxicating feeling; the warmth erupting into tingles that danced across his entire body. With his legs spread wide, he opened his mouth to allow Andreas to taste him again, his tongue running across pointed teeth. A whine escaped his lips when Andreas bit down against his bottom lip, sucking it between his teeth before returning to the kiss.

Kairos arched his back, his head falling backwards as he tilted his chin to give his lover better access. An intense heat enveloped Kairos' almost untouched groin, spreading throughout his body as it rubbed between their abdomens, the tease of friction pushing him to his limit. It was too much, too intense.

Andreas wrapped one arm around Kairos' back, holding him steady and trailing across its curves as he pressed into him harder. His fingers dug into the merman's skin, drawing out a moan from Kairos as his body tensed up. Their gazes met, their faces flushed as they began to reach their peaks.

The pirate helped work him along, finally wrapping those calloused fingers around his throbbing shaft. It almost seemed more sensitive in his human form, the tip oozing with pre-release every time Andreas' thumb ghosted over it.

With one final thrust, Kairos bucked upwards, his body exploding with pleasure. His hands gripped onto the rock beneath him tightly, his head tilting back as his muscles contracted in spasms.

Not even a second later, Andreas released inside him with a hot rush of liquid. He was panting heavily, sweat beading upon his brow, his breath shallow and ragged. He held onto Kairos as they both caught their breaths, his eyes shining as he gazed at the beautiful creature lying in his arms. He'd thought he'd never get tired of looking at him.

As he lay there gasping, Kairos could still feel the lingering pressure of Andreas' cock deep within him, stretching him, stroking against the innermost walls of his body. With a contented sigh, the merman relaxed onto the rocks below, releasing the tension in his spent muscles as the pirate withdrew his sword.

Kairos' head fell to the side, resting against the rock as his lungs struggled to draw in enough oxygen. When he felt Andreas' presence beside him he glanced back to find the pirate watching him, his dark brown eyes as soft as the clouds in the sky above.

"I've never done anything like that before," the pirate murmured. "So, what now? Do I live or am I to be your next feast?"

Kairos hummed and rolled onto his side to brush a strand of damp, black hair from Andreas' face. "You live. You must always live. For as long as I breathe air, so must you."

The merman watched as a faint smile played on Andreas' lips, his heart swelling in a way he had not been aware that it could as the pirate lifted a finger to trace the outline of his jaw. His heart skipped a beat at the feather light brush of warm fingertips over his bare skin as though Andreas was trying to memorise his face.

"But you are going to leave, go back to your ship and sail back out onto the seas with your crew." Kairos smiled sadly as he lazily traced patterns into Andreas' shoulder. "You cannot remain here with me, no matter how much I may want you to."

"Don't say that. Say you want me to stay. Say it and I will, Kairos. Ask me to never leave and I will remain here in this cavern with you for the rest of my life. By the seas I will," Andreas replied with a glimmer of hope in his eyes.

Kairos frowned and climbed to his feet, turning away from his newfound lover as he walked back to his pool. "I cannot." His eyes wandered across the crystal blue waters, his mind already fighting to remember the curves and lines of Andreas' face, and he paused, casting a quick glance back at the human. "I can't trap you here when there is a whole world out there for you. You cannot survive in the water and I cannot survive without it. Return to your ship and go, do not look back."

With his words, Andreas felt his heart clench tightly inside his chest. He reached out, grasping Kairos' wrist to pull him back. "Promise me something."

The merman turned around, confusion marring his features.

"Promise me that whatever happens, I'll see you again. That you won't ever forget me."

Kairos smiled softly. "I could never forget you, not now that you have become a piece of my soul."

With those final words, the merman leapt into the water, diving down beneath the waves. Andreas stood where he was for a few moments before turning away, putting on his clothes and walking slowly back to his ship.

He sat alone on the top deck. The sun had set long ago, leaving behind only the dim glow of the stars above them, illuminating the sea. He knew that he couldn't go back, even if his heart was heavy as he took the helm. Kairos was a danger to him, a predator of the ocean, and he had asked him to leave. No matter how much he wished it could be otherwise, he would respect his wishes and return to the sea. For he was destined to live above it, riding along the waves, and Kairos was forever shackled to its depths.

With his head lowered and his shoulders slumped, the pirate stared down at his reflection on the water. He looked like a broken vessel, torn apart by their chance encounter. He had walked into that cavern a free man with nothing to tie him down. Now he had found something he truly cared for. Someone bound to him by the threads of fate.
