As the night falls upon Trolls village and the residents of it also fall into peaceful slumbers, there's one more troll left that hasn't followed others just yet.
The said troll twisted and turned against the soft bedding in the comfort of her newly built pod. Her eyelashes fluttered open as she stared at the unlit light above the bed.
"Can I rest, please?" She asked no one, sighing as she turned her body towards the window. She stared in awe at the fireflies hovering about, their lights glistening under the dimly lit sky.
"So pretty," she grinned, her eyes glistening in the moonlight, "like a painting, beautiful and full of colour."
"I wonder if he's still awake too." Her smile dropped, and she turned herself away from the window to look at a photo resting in a frame on her nightstand.
Giving up on getting her rightful sleep, she pushed herself up from the comfort of her cosy blanket and reached her hand out to gently grab the photo.
The photo itself displayed two trolls with smiles bright enough to rival the sun. They looked like they were holding on to each other tightly, with the male troll having his arm around the female troll while she held on to his green romper's.
She blushed as she noticed his little glance at her in the photo. "He's so cute!" She squealed, her feet kicking the air. Her heart was pounding fast against her chest as her face heated up. "Oh no, he's cute!" She stopped kicking and threw herself off the bed.
"No, this is bad. This changes everything!" Her feet dug into the floor as she started circling around her room in shock at her new revelation.
"I cannot like him; he's-." She threw the photo on her bed. "My friend. Just... a friend."
"Is he..? Gah! I don't know!"
"POPPY!" The next morning, Viva rushed to her sister's house, breaking down her door in the process. "Oh, hey, Branch, you're here too?"
"It's half past six in the morning." The other two trolls were found rotting in the kitchen, sporting eye bags under their eyes. Their hair looks messy and tangled, like it hasn't been brushed for hours.
"What happened to you two?" Viva curiously asked.
"Weird emergency with John Dory, but it's all sorted now." Branch explained—or tried to.
"Oh, that's nice..? It's great that everything turned out fine, even if I have no idea what it's about." Viva whispered the last part to herself and perked up as she remembered why she came here so early.
"Poppy, I have to talk to you about something like—urgently." Branch's ears stood up in interest.
"Can it not wait until later, Viva? We are so tired, and the morning song starts at nine. Speaking of tiredness, it looks like you need some rest too. Did you even get any sleep?" Poppy stared at her sister, concerned. Viva groaned, hating that she got caught.
"Nope, not a wink." Branch, face palmed, said, "I think I know where Poppy got it from."
"Branch-" Poppy scolded her boyfriend as he threw his hands up in the air, admitting to the guilt.
"Branch, buddy, you know I love you like my brother, but can you leave so I can talk to my sister here? It's kind of private." Viva asked him as nicely as possible. Branch nodded in understanding.
"It's fine; I have to go back home anyway." I really missed my bed and my soundproof walls," he said as he walked past the broken door. "I'm not looking forward to dealing with those three in my bunker, though."
Viva carefully watched the blue troll leave the pink pod before turning herself back towards her sister, who gave her a weird look.
"Hey, Viva, are you okay?" Poppy asked, concerned about her older sister, who went silent.
"Last night, I couldn't sleep at all."
"Yep, I kind of figured that out earlier." She shrugged her shoulders. "What else happened?"
"Well, I was getting to that until you interrupted me." Viva playfully rolled her eyes, receiving a little punch from the other.
"Anyways, you know I have this little picture of me and Clay beside my nightstand, right?" Poppy nodded along, trying to help her sister.
"Yeah... and?"
"Well, after I stared at it for, I don't know, many minutes, I came to realise that I-" Viva scratched her face nervously. "I think I might.. like him."
"Of course you do; you two are like best friends righ-" Poppy's eyes widened as she noticed her sister's face turning bright red. "Oh. OH! You mean?! This changes everything!"
"I know!" Viva squeal.
"Wait, you just realised?" Poppy deadpanned, "You two have known each other for like twenty years, and you just realised after you stared at a picture of him for a few minutes?"
"Okay, I know that sounds weird." The others agreed.
"I think you might need some time to think more about this." Poppy tapped her fingers on her chin, seeming to be in deep thought. "Okay, how about this: why don't you tell me what you like about him?"
Viva went silent for a moment before nodding her head in agreement. "Yeah, I guess I can do that." They both got comfy on the sofa.
She took a deep breath. "I- I guess my feelings started way back. It's hard to be a leader; it's hard to deal with so many trolls, and I've never gotten to train properly before escaping Bergen town. When me and my group were forcibly split from the other, there was only me to manage everyone, and I'm gonna admit that I struggled. A lot... but that changed when we found Clay along the way. He helped me with everything, helping us find a place to reside, helping us with our resources, and helping me become a good leader. I've never been a really serious person, but Clay was like the opposite of who I am, yet we are still so familiar. We were like two peas in a pod, at least that's what everyone said."
"And he was just so smart, so kind, so sweet. When I told him about what happened to me and how I felt, he took time to understand me, and he tried his best to give me advice I might need. He's also very good-looking... and when he smiles, it's just so beautiful. My heart starts pounding against my chest every time he smiles at me, and with the way he looks at me or when he rests his arms on my shoulders, it takes my breath away that I feel like I might lose myself. He can also be very funny, even if he keeps saying that he's not a very fun person anymore, but we both know that's not true."
"Oh, Viva.."
She sniffed, "I wish I had realised that sooner, that I might just love him."
"But you can, just go tell him!" Poppy encouraged; she quickly grabbed her sister's hands before pulling her towards the door.
"No, Poppy! I can't!" Viva pulled her hands back.
"Why not?"
"He might not like me like that." Poppy mentally face-palmed, "Are you serious..? From what you told me, it sounds like he might have something for you too. "With the way he looks at me or when he rests his arms on my shoulders", yep sounds like attraction to me!"
Viva perked up and said, "Really? You think so?"
"Of course I do. Now, Viva, you're going to go out there, march to the bunker, demand to see Clay, and ask him out on a date."
"Demand?"
"You know what I mean!"
Viva nodded along while looking at her sister weirdly. "Okay, I'll do that. I can do that... I'm sure I can do it." She patted herself in encouragement.
"That's the spirit! Although, I actually think you should wait till later." A sudden ring of the two hug time brackets reminded them of the time itself.
"Yeah, I think that might be a good idea..."...
