"What?" You facetimed your friend, Elysia. She was leaping with excitement.
"Have you got a date for the MOTH party?"
"If I say no, are you going to help me find one?"
"That depends... only if you come!"
"I'm not sure if I'll go. But I don't want to bring a date."
"You can't be serious! How come?"
Because I know Kalpas won't come. You thought.
As if Elysia read your mind, she winked, "I can try convincing Kalpas to come."
"No! You can't," You suddenly blurted out.
She jumped a bit, startled. "...Oh my. Is everything okay?"
"No-I mean, yes! Everything is fine. He just can't come to the party." And be my date...
"If he can't come, then convince him, Y/N! You own some sort of secret magical powers. Kalpas always falls under your spell."
You blushed. "Uhm, are you serious?" You felt a spark of hope igniting inside you.
"Yes! Ask him in the sweetest voice possible."
She cleared her throat and mocked your voice, ensuring each and every word is dipped in syrupy candy:
"Kalpas, would you be my date to the MOTH party? Pretty pleaseee?"
You cringed. "Maybe try that again without 'pretty please'."
"So you'll ask him, yes?"
Suddenly, your stomach churned.
"I'll think about it. Maybe tomorrow," You said.
"Okay, sweet dreams, Y/N!" Elysia ended the call. You sighed, overwhelmed about Kalpas.
Lately, nothing has been going as smoothly as you hoped. Kalpas had been avoiding you, not replying to your texts, and even worse: having little time for you.
At first, you let it slide because it only occurred when he was busy. But it was winter break, and for the past several days, you rarely saw him.
"What happened?" You texted him, several days ago.
The next day, he replied. "Nothing," he insisted.
"If anything is wrong, just tell me, okay? I haven't seen you since last weekend."
He replied "Ok." But it didn't feel genuine.
You pulled your phone out. No new text messages from him. You sighed, shutting off your phone and went to bed.
