Short story
I looked around myself, and all I saw was blood. No more screams and no more sounds of swords clashing together. My breathing was heavy and my body was hot. I looked down to my lover, who was lying in my lap. His eyes looked up at me with pain and sadness. I spoke with a shaking breath
"Oh my love, please, please don't leave me" tears fell from my eyes and onto his cheeks. My hand ran through his muddy hair. His hand slowly made its way toward my cheek, I cupped his hand with mine.
"Oh my dear, please don't fear," He said with a soft but broken voice "I know it is sad that I must go, but please, don't be upset" I could see tears forming in his eyes. I took a deep breath as I spoke again.
"The war is done my love, peace runs in the valley once again. Close your eyes and dream. Dream like that of a child. So peaceful, so playful and free." I hugged his body close to mine as I tried to hold back my tears.
"I wish to stay, but it is not my choice. I must go now" I heard him say, his voice now a whisper. I let out a choked sob as I heard his voice.
"I don't want you to go," I replied, breathless. I couldn't stop my sobs from leaving my mouth. He placed his hand on my cheek again, causing me to look into his eyes."Don't cry my dear, I shall see you in the sky of a thousand stars. There we'll be safe, happy and free. There we'll dream together and we shall never be apart. I will wait for you, my love. I will wait." I cried out as I saw the light leave his eyes. I hugged his body tighter, not wanting to let go, not wanting to leave him.
My Comrades came and had to pry my hands off of his body. I kicked and screamed and cried but they did not let me go as they pulled me off of the battlefield. Months had passed and I could feel my life slipping away. I miss him, I wanna dance with him again but he's gone. We won the war, but it feels like I lost it. Today, I will change that. I walk up the hill towards his grave stone, I take a set next to it and spoke.
"Oh my dear, I can not live like this. I can not live with you, without your smile, without your voice." I played with the bottle in my hands, speaking to myself "The bottle in my hand will let me be with you. I can be with you in the sky of a thousand stars, we can dance again, just like how we used to!"
I opened the bottle and brought it to my lips and tilted it. I felt the cold liquid run down my throat and through my veins. Slowly, I feel myself becoming tired, I leaned my hand against his grave stone and closed my eyes, falling into a void of darkness. When I hope my eyes again I see his face. He has a smile on his face as I do the same. I stood up and pulled him into a tight hug, not wanting to let go, not wanting to leave him.
"Oh my love, you're back in my arms again. Oh how I missed you. I'm sorry but I couldn't wait any longer" I said, cupping his face in my hand. He chuckles and leans his forehead against mine.
"Oh my dear, I'm happy you're here. I couldn't wait any longer, I missed you so" He leaned in closer and kissed my lips. I placed my hands on his hips as he pulled away and wrapped his arms around my neck. We leaned in close to each other and started dancing in the sky of a thousand stars.
