The bustling atmosphere inside the cafe greeted me as soon as I stepped inside and went on to sit in one of the booths located in the farthest corner of the cafe . I sat there for almost 18 mins until my patience ran out and I dialled Ravi's number .
He picked up after the fourth ring.
"Hello Aparna?" He sniffed on the other side .
"Where are you Ravi? You said you will be here even before I reach but now look at you, " I said, slightly miffed by his habit of always being late. It's useless to keep his number in my emergency contacts because I fear that even if I meet an accident someday and I will have to call Ravi , I will probably be in heaven till he reaches over to save me .
"Sorry yaar , I'm at the back of the cafe right now since I need to take a smoke . I will be inside so-umph," his voice started to break and weird noises were heard on the other .
"Ravi ? Hello? Ravi ? Did you choke on your cigar dimwit !? Helloo?" I kept calling him before the call was abruptly cut . In a mode of panic I gulped down the whole glass of water kept on the table before running out of the cafe's back door and reached just in time to see my friend being hauled in the backseat of a black microvan by two very big men,to my absolute horror
The kidnappers were bulky looking and noticeably handsome but they seemed to be really bad at their job since they weren't able to locate a grown woman(yes, that's me) hiding behind a dumpster. And they also didn't notice the unlocked boot of the van.
And I, being the supposedly courageous yet very stupid character in every thriller movie , quietly got inside the boot of the van right under their noses and shut the boot as quietly as I could have.
The van started soon enough and I could hear poor little Ravi struggling against his kidnappers in the backseat .
Yes, I admit it was stupid of me to hide in the boot of a van occupied by kidnappers but I had to save my friend somehow. What if the kidnappers grow so annoyed with him that they decide to kill him even before they reach a destination where they would let his family know that he has been kidnapped . I had called the police when I was hiding behind that foul smelling dumpster and hopefully they have tracked my phone by now .
"What would you even gain by kidnapping me dude ? I don't even have ancestral money , heck even my family is poor !" Ravi yelled at his kidnappers . Wrong move.
"Stuff a cloth in his mouth,anna." One of the men said .
"Wha-umpshmpum" Ravi's speech started to sound like gibberish. I believe he had been gagged as ordered. He soon stopped struggling and I, on the other hand, faded into a world of darkness even before I could comprehend what was happening.
