"Y/n! Come on! You're gonna miss the game!" Your friend Mari exclaims as she tucks at your sleeve. You allow her to drag you through the halls, shimmying through the crowd of people over to the gym where a volleyball game was about to start.
"Hey! Wait a minute, Mari. Who's even playing?" You ask while trying not to trip over a guy's big ass shoes.
"I thought you knew? Fukurodani is playing against Itachiyama!"
Your eyes brighten, "Oh! Bokuto and Akaashi are playing?"
"Duh. Didn't you see the schedule at all?" Mari replies in an astonished voice.
"You were the one who dragged me here. You know the boys didn't make it to Nationals. Why would I wanna see who's playing?" You roll your eyes.
You were the manager for Aoba Johsai's boys volleyball team, and unfortunately, they didn't qualify for Nationals. They didn't qualify the year before either, when you first became their manager in your first year of high school. You weren't planning on coming to the Nationals since you knew that every game you watched would remind you of what could've been. You saw how upset the third-years were when they knew they weren't going to Nationals. It broke your heart to see them that way.
Mari stops you both to the side of the hallway so you wouldn't block incoming traffic.
"Oh, I don't know. Maybe you'd want to come and support your other volleyball friends, who are from different prefectures by the way." She snaps back.
You put your hands in an attempt to calm her and sigh, "That's actually a fair point. I just feel bad even being here. It's like I'm doing something illegal."
"You idiot, I bet you Oikawa and Iwaizumi are here to watch games too." She flicks your forehead, and you yelp out in pain before rubbing at the spot.
"Well if they are, they sure haven't told me about it." You mumble, and Mari sighs.
"Whatever, come on. We're actually going to be late if we don't get going." She says before she starts dragging you through the crowd again.
You two step into the huge gym and see two teams warming up. You see the familiar owl-looking man and the black-haired man that is usually paired up with him. You can't help but smile widely at seeing your friends. You want to say hello, but you figure that they wouldn't want to be disrupted before a big game. You walk with Mari over to the balcony so that you could get a better view of the court.
"You know, I've heard of Itachiyama, but I don't actually know a lot about them." You admit to Mari.
Mari jolts her head to face you, "Seriously? Dawg, how are you the manager of our boy's volleyball team if you don't even know the teams they go up against??"
"Well, we've never gone up against Itachiyama!" You defend yourself.
You two plop into two empty seats near the front and look down at the teams getting ready to play. They're in circles having the pre-game talk. You decide to look at the Itachiyama team, and you burst out laughing.
"Wait! Wait! Are those actually their jerseys?" You gasp out, clutching your stomach.
"Yes!" Mari responds.
"Why do they look like highlighters?!"
"Lemon-lime flavored!"
"Walking wet floor signs! Oh my God, I can't breathe!" You slap your knee as the two of you cackle.
A whistle blows loudly, and the two of you try to quiet down knowing the game is just about to start. You have to take deep breaths to calm yourself down. Mari continues snickering next to you and sighs. You give each other a glance before focusing on the game.
