Nadia or "dia" knew that the people who adopted -- no took her were wrong, she knew that she was worthy of her soulmates and that she did deserve love. Her therapist, working with her to help her to understand that.Understanding is one thing, but believing that is a whole other ball park.
One she wasn't quite ready to tackle so for now she was content with knowing. Knowing that she would only be able to watch and help them from a distance. She, of course, tried to make up for that by leaving them handmade and store bought presents. She also helped complete paperwork and leave ideas that would help them improve their plans for the isle refugees.
She was content to watch from the shadows as they thrived in their endeavors.
She was content to know that everything they wanted was coming to fruition.
So when she opened the door that she usually had sealed, but had slowly been cracking open, to the bonds and felt the longing that was pulsing from them, surprise wasn't a strong enough word to describe how she felt. So just as quickly as she had opened the metaphorical door she shut it just as fast.
They couldn't be longing for her.
Never her.
Because her knowing they were wrong wasn't the same as believing it.
