The stress was horrible.
For the past week, (Y/N) had been stressing and trying to finish this painting for her class. It was almost done, but it just didn't feel perfect. She could notice every imperfection, every place that needed more detail.
Nothing was going to get done on time.
Letting out a loud groan (Y/N) gripped he paintbrush tightly. Her nails dig into her skin. She just wanted to cry, but she knew it would be a waste of time. And she needed all the time she could get to finish this painting. She placed the paintbrush down, her hand running through her hair, tugging at it in frustration.
It was due tomorrow, and even though it looked perfect in her friends eyes, she knew it wasn't. She knew the teacher was going to give her a bad mark for the quality and lack of effort. She couldn't help it. Tears had already started rolling down her cheeks. Her breath was shaky, her fist was red, and her arm was shaking in distress. Her mind was clouded with thoughts, ones that seemed so real, like they were going to happen right now.
The violent shaking of her body is what brought her out of her distressed mind. Quickly looking up, she saw Kayla, her friend, staring at her with a worried expression. When did she get here? She was alone just a minute ago. (Y/N)'s red hand relaxed, a sharp pain shooting through her hand from where her nails were digging into. Her breath was still untamed, but she could breathe much more clearly now.
"(Y/N)!! Are you alright?" Kayla asked, her hands on the female's shoulders. Kayla had seen (Y/N) go through many episodes and distressed states, but it scared her each time. The way (Y/N) unconsciously harmed herself worried her. And she thought that someday she may just...
"Kayla... when did you get here?" (Y/N) asked, her hands taking Kaylas. Her hands were shaky and red, probably swollen too. Kayla rubbed the girls hands gently, knowing that this action helped her calm down. "I got here 5 minutes ago..." she answered.
"(Y/N)... you need to stop overthinking about this assignment. It's beautiful. And yes, the more you add, the more perfect it gets, but it's definitely a passing grade, if not more." Kayla spoke softly, gently squeezing (Y/N)'s hands in a pattern. Sometimes, Kayla couldn't go through her day without worrying about (Y/N). She cared for her so much.
(Y/N) didn't say anything. She was just focusing on Kayla's touch. She was slowly calming down, which pleased Kayla. Kayla soon let go of (Y/N)'s hand. "Let's go out and get something to eat... you need some fresh air." Kayla said as she picked her purse up from the floor.
(Y/N) nodded, getting up from her stool. "I'm gonna change ge first. I covered in paint." She said, walking to her room, quickly rummaging through her closet. Since it was pretty hot outside today, she decided on a pair of shorts and a t-shirt. She quickly changed into them, placing her dirty clothes into a small basket.
She had clothes she'd where when she'd paint, just so she wouldn't ruin other clothes. Grabbing her purse, she walked back into the living room, nodding at Kayla. "What are you thinking to eat?" Kayla asked.
The two females walked down the stairs of the apartment complex. (Y/N) hadn't had a good meal in a long time, but she wasn't feeling food. She wanted something sweet. "How about we get some ice cream? I want something sweet." (Y/N) offered. She was one with a huge sweet tooth. Kayla giggled as they walked down the sidewalk.
There was an ice cream place not too far from the apartments, and they were pretty affordable, too. The sun was shining violently, complete contrast to yesterday's weather. The streets were busy today, people mostly walking instead of driving. And (Y/N) couldn't blame them. The sun felt nice.
Soon, Kayla and (Y/N) walked into the ice cream shop. It was fresh in the building, a pleasant feeling after being outside in the sun. Luckily, there was nobody waiting in line, and it was pretty empty in the lobby. Soon, someone came to the counter, a smile on their face.
"Hello! Welcome to Frozen Lush. What can I get for you?" The male greeted them in a cherry voice. (Y/N) couldn't help but stare at him. He was so pretty. Kayla started to order, getting herself a vanilla cone with yellow sprinkles. The male applied her order on the screen, looking over at (Y/N) for her order next.
"Erm... I'll get a sundae with chocolate syrup.." (Y/N) spoke out softly. As much as she wanted to, she couldn't stare at him for too long. She didn't want to make him feel uncomfortable. With a smile, the male applied her order as well. "Alright, will that be all?" The two girls nodded as he pressed a couple of buttons on the screen.
Kayla took the honor of paying for their treats. She smiled to herself. She could see the shy look in (Y/N)'s eyes, which she was used to seeing. (Y/N) was the type to fall quickly for people, even at the smallest act of kindness. This worried her a little bit, but she will always be there to protect her friend. The girls sat at a table, waiting for their treats. (Y/N) was giving small glances at the stand, where the male that took their order was making their cone and sundae.
"He's cute, huh?" Kayla whispered to her friend, causing her to swiftly face her. It wasn't long before a light blush was plastered on (Y/N)'s face. "You should ask for his number." Kayla smiled at (Y/N). (Y/N) bit her lip as she started to play with her fingers, shaking her head softly.
"I don't even know him, Kayla... that'll be weird." (Y/N) mumbled with an embarrassed look. She was way too shy to ask him, even if she really wanted to. "Of course you don't know him. That's why you get to know him!" Kayla replied. She knew (Y/N) wanted someone to love and someone to love her.
Kayla was determined to help (Y/N) find the perfect man. Someone who is kind, someone who will love her unconditionally and treat her right. Sadly, there aren't many men out there who are willing to put in that kind of effort. "I'll ask him for you~" Kayla whispered to her, her teasing tone and words making (Y/N)'s heart jump.
Before she could protest, Kayla saw that the male was walking over to them with their treats. Kayla grabbed her cone and (Y/N)'s sundae, handing the respective treat to her friend. "If you don't mind me asking, what's your name? I have never seen you before on the counter." Kayla asked the male before he could turn and walk off.
With a gentle smile, the male looked at her. "I'm Alex. I just started working here a couple of days ago. It was the only place that was close to home." The mal3le, Alex, replied to Kayla, placing his hands on his hips. (Y/N) couldn't bring herself to look towards the male, her gaze stuck towards the window.
She was so nervous. Will Kayla really ask him? Or was she just teasing? (Y/N) was waiting for those dreaded words to come, nervously bouncing her leg.
"Well, nice to meet you, Alex. My friend here thinks you're quite cute and wants to know if she can have your number!" Kayla happily said with no hesitation.
There it was.
(Y/N)'s heart was beating so fast. Alex looked over at (Y/N) with a light blush and a smile. "Sure. I mean, you're cute, and I wouldn't pass up on an opportunity like this." Alex said as he took out a small notepad from his pocket along with the pen. She wrote down his number, tearing the paper off and placing it in front of (Y/N).
(Y/N) honestly couldn't believe it. She looked up at Alex, who gave her a wink and went back to the counter where people were waiting. Kayla was staring at (Y/N) with a smug smile. "See? Not so bad." Kayla simply said as she started eating her cone.
(Y/N) didn't say anything, just ate her sundae in silence. Her face was burning, and her mind was going over introductions and conversation starters for when she did text Alex later.
