These sticky, sultry days that were inflicted on her, there was nothing she detested more.
ㅤBy day, the sun hatefully beat her down. By its fall, it swelled in anger, the sky fuming, spitting at its own failure. It was trying to kill her.
ㅤThe others didn't take notice of the girl, too busy mourning their survival.
ㅤDespite the sun's loathing, it was weak compared to her prevailers; they hardly had to try and they succeeded. Their weapons, their cruelty, they had everything she and the other grovelers didn't.
ㅤThat was how she used to divide people. Man and woman wasn't a difference she'd known; not until knowledge had been thrust onto her.
ㅤA man, he was superior to the other prevailers. They listened to him. He stood in the dusty field, his lips smirking over a chewed stalk of wheat, watching her.
ㅤBare feet planted, knees locked, she was standing, hollowly looking back. He was centred in her sights, but unfocused, a smudge.
ㅤHer legs and arms vibrated, her body quaking and burning. She'd ruined herself only that morning. A day. That was what he'd given her.
ㅤThe man simply chuckled and shook his head, spitting out his stalk.
ㅤ'Animals.'
ㅤHe walked away, his large build shrinking.
ㅤHer legs finally gave out, falling to her knees, her shoulders bowed and head hung. Her heart boiled, spitting and scolding. It'd been that man's victory, punishing her with the cruellest display of dominance conceived.
ㅤThe sun was almost dead, and she glared into it, hair sticking across her face. It darkened against her lifeless eyes. An entire rainbow spectrum of colour dredged along the horizon, washed in dark burnt filth.
ㅤShe gingerly picked up the limp baby at her knees, daintily holding its floppy body up to her chest, caressing its head.
ㅤThis tiny thing had drained her of her soul. And then died.
ㅤA parasite she'd never wanted, and a love that'd been gouged from her.
ㅤHer body tensed all over, violently quaking. Her fingers fought for gentleness, carefully placing its peaceful little face back down again. She swayed, her fists clenched on the baked earth.
ㅤThe sun was weak in comparison.
ㅤThe scream tore from her throat, ripping up her lungs. Birds fled. Her sobs rasped with a roaring emotional filth.
ㅤIt was her absolute defeat. And, perhaps she was an animal because, against sensible judgement, her heart stewed with a raging intolerance and defiance. Tears poured down her cheeks. Her beastly instinct swore a promise on her life.
