Receiving 15 missed calls from his ridiculous best friend was the least thing Donghyuck wanted to wake up to early in the morning. He knew this could only mean one thing, his friend was up to no good and now he was forcibly roped into this as his bosom buddy as thick as thieves as his friend would call it. And he can't even have a say in this, he was absolutely side lined here.
That was how he ended up securing a table for two at a fancy diner nestled along the centre of bustling streets in the city. Turns out, his friend was nagged at for still being single that led to him being set up in a blind date by his parents. His friend being the ditz he was, got wasted in a nightclub the evening prior the date, as Donghyuck is waiting for the person he was going to be on a date with to show up, his friend was probably lifelessly sprawled on his bed.
Countless thoughts wandered inside Donghyuck's mind, he was just a stand in so how should he do in this date? Was he supposed to do well enough, well enough to convince his date to marry him? Maybe that will serve as a punishment to his friend for making him go through all these? Or well enough to scare the date away? Maybe that will taint his friend's name?
His friend, Na Jaemin, is a socialite who came from a wealthy family. So staining his name, hmm, Donghyuck smiled at the thought.
"Pink hair?"
But marrying his friend off to his date would also be a good idea, Donghyuck silently giggled at the thought. In an average, a human can live up to their late 60s, assuming his date is in his early 20s, then his friend will have to spend 40 years with the human! Well isn't that a lovely prank?
"Na Jaemin?"
Oh that's his friend's name, was he here? Donghyuck looked around to search for his friend but even after scanning through the entire restaurant, he couldn't find a glimpse of his friend, not even a single strand of his hair. Frowning, he pursed his lips in confusion.
As Donghyuck was about to dive into his nonsensical thoughts, he felt a tap on his shoulder. He turned his head to look right away, seeing a man in a pinstriped blazer worn about his fit shirt paired with a matching pinstripe trousers. It was safe to say that Donghyuck almost gawked at the sight, his jet-black strands were slicked back into a sophisticated hairstyle. Donghyuck hasn't taken a single sip of his wine yet but he already felt intoxicated by the blend of masculine musk and a hint of whiskey wafting through the air.
Donghyuck was dizzy, he felt his breath getting stuck in his throat. Feeling like there was a slump, he gulped. In all his years on Earth, he had never seen a human this attractive before. There was a whole circus flipping in the pit of his stomach just from hearing the man's warm and steady's voice.
"Mr. Na Jaemin?"
Donghyuck frowned before it all dawned on him. That's right! He came to this date in the form of his friend!
Donghyuck is a changeling. A whimsical entity that possesses an otherworldly aura, he can transform into any forms he want as long as he can envision it. Changelings, as legends and folklores have it, are best at shapeshifting whether it be a human, a thing, an animal or any living things you can think of. They are born under the night sky when the moon casts a silvery light, but that's not the case for Donghyuck. He was born when the sun was at its prime, gifting him the honeyed-tan his skin bore that he still is grateful to this day. His mother always showered him in compliments for being uniquely beautiful in his own ethereal way.
And right now, he shapeshifted into the form of his friend to help him with the date he couldn't go to. Sitting in front of the man, Donghyuck felt a pang of regret finding it too bad that he was here as his friend, not as his self. He shook the thoughts away, clearing his throat before giving him a classy smile, "That's me, right, please have a seat"
The man returned the smile before settling himself down in front of Donghyuck, "You've already ordered?"
"Huh? Oh, no, I've only just arrived" Donghyuck replied, slightly shaking his head.
"What would you like to order?" The man asked, taking the menu on the side.
Donghyuck found everything that came out of the man's mouth very attractive; the way he fixed the folds of his sleeves before picking up the menu, the slight furrow of his eyebrow as his eyes scanned the selection, and the manly scent that wafted from him. It was as if every little gesture, every expression only added to the charm that drew Donghyuck in deeper.
And it was evident that Donghyuck wasn't the only one that was captivated seeing as to how a female waiter swayed her way towards them; a thing she didn't do when Donghyuck sat here for the past 30 minutes. Donghyuck internally rolled his eyes.
"Jaemin?"
"Oh huh?"
"I wanted to know what dish you preferred," The man spoke calmly, setting down the menu.
Donghyuck looked up to him and then to the waiter before replying, "I'll order my own, you should worry for yours..." He paused, realizing he doesn't know what the man's name was.
"Mark, Mark Lee" The man, or Mark Lee, offered his hand for a handshake which had Donghyuck panicking.
He racked his brain to remember, did he moisturize his hands before coming here? What if his hands were rough and not pleasant to the feeling? Battling his internal crisis, Donghyuck forced a small smile before taking the man's hand in his.
Electricity sparked as soon as their hands came in contact sending a jolt that seemed to surge through Donghyuck's entire being. In that moment, time seemed to stand still, giving Donghyuck extra seconds to admire how warm and gentle his hand was; his grip was firm but tender at the same time. The air cackled with anticipation and Donghyuck couldn't help but feel a rush of excitement course through him; a sensation that is foreign to him.
Donghyuck swallowed, "Nice to meet you, Mark"
"Likewise," Mark gave a subtle smile, his gaze lingered on Donghyuck for a second before he shifted to face the waiter.
After ordering, silence settled in the air. Donghyuck had been alive for 721 years, but he had never felt this sensation before. What should he call this feeling? It was foreign, yet it calls to lure him in. He found it very strange to harbour these emotions, but he wanted to dig deeper, perhaps it was all because of the way the man possesses subtle charms that doesn't fail to flutter Donghyuck's heart. So, as much peculiar these feelings are is as intriguing it is to him, and he was prepared to delve into it.
