1989

"riki do you seriously think you're going to get away with running off with MY girlfriend?", his voice echoed in the empty hallway. it seemed he was right behind us but was still so far. 

it scared me. it scared me so much that i was scared for riki too.

"riki, please i'm scared. what if he finds us-". niki shushed my whispered cries for the sake of our safety. but it did not make me feel any better that his voice had filled the room with fear and tension. i hated it so much that i felt like going up to him and telling him that i was never his girlfriend and never will be. 

he is my ex-boyfriend, jaehyun. 

i broke up with him 2 years ago and he still is in that delusional state of mind that we're together. he was perfectly fine with the breakup and was in on being friends and friends only. 

after he saw me at the mall a few months ago with my current boyfriend, riki, he has not stopped bothering me. there wasn't a day that went by of him not texting me everywhere. i've blocked every single access point he had to talk to me but he still found ways to talk to me. 

he would send flowers to my doorstep, put tiny gifts with love notes, and all the things he used to do when we were together and it was getting out of hand. 

with all this going on, it was genuinely so obvious that he had not moved on and it bothered me so much. riki was known of all of what was going on and he insisted on getting a restriction order but i denied thinking he was just in a phase of something after seeing me. 

i really should've gotten the restricting order. 

but here we are, shushing and trembling, hiding in an abandoned building, in a small room, with the loud bangs and shouts of jaehyun and his dogs. 

the bangs got louder and.. closer and closer... suddenly, they stopped. footsteps then rushed downstairs of the building which gave me huge amounts of relief. riki and i slowly got out of the cramped room without making a single sound and got to the door. the door crept open quietly and echoed in the slightly dark empty hallway. 

making soft steps down the hallway, we got to the edge of the hallway before giving an abrupt stop. sounds from the nearby room where we were gave me a heart attack which made me cling to riki's arm even tighter. 

he kissed my forehead once, twice, and thrice before kissing me on the lips. "everything will be okay, my love. we'll get out of here and go straight to the police just like you said. it's okay i promise". 

oh, how i wish he hadn't spoken so soon. 

when we got to the stairs, it was really pitch black. any light that we were surrounded with was gone and we had to manage this by ourselves. riki held onto my hand so tight and led us down the stairs. by the time we got to the end, we were both pushed down. 

the push was so hard, i hit my head on the sharp part of the rusty, metal stairs hurt both my elbows and fell face first on the ground. 

as soon as i tried getting up, i reached for riki. it took a few minutes for him to wake up and realize both our faces had tiny glass shards almost everywhere on our faces. riki had a slightly larger glass piece on his cheek which made my eyes water.

what did i get ourselves into? 

i looked around the now slightly lit room downstairs we were in right now and it sent me shivers when i heard footsteps coming our way. 

glass was heard being stepped on and footsteps were coming from everywhere around us. i felt someone pull me by the hair and forcefully make me stand up while having me in a pretty strong headlock. riki was still on the ground but the same thing happened to him. 

jaehyun came between the middle of us and had this maniacal look on his face. he looked extremely crazy. 

"so, you were gonna go to the police after leaving this place? that's not a very nice thing to do to your boyfriend now is it baby?", he said pouting. i didn't know what to say. how did he even hear what riki said?

"are you wondering how i know what you said? there is a tracker on your phone that i placed while we were together. i know every single thing that you have said because of that beautiful tracker. i've also heard what you've done in your... bedroom." he giggled. "like holy shit, you weren't that loud when it was me. is he better than me? is that why? is that why left me? just for that?", his voice kept getting louder and louder with each question he threw at me. 

"you know exactly why we broke up jaehyun, you were fucking zia! my best friend! i couldn't live with the fact that you threw three years into the trash just like that", with each word i said, the person that had me in a headlock kept getting slightly tighter. 

he got closer to me and stood facing riki. a guy came from behind him and held a knife in front of  riki's neck. my eyes widened as i saw the extent he was going to just to try and have me back.

"you either break up with him now or i kill him. you can chose either one and i'll do it". 

"i'm not breaking up with him. i'll never break up with him. not in this lifetime and not in the next."

"well..", he looked at the man holding the knife. they both nodded and there was only one swift motion to his throat for all life to drain out of him. jaehyun looked at me and smiled, walking towards me. 

"you had two options. he was going to die either way. but now, i can't make you live anymore. you're a witness. i can't have proof walking around in broad daylight", he said looking at me. he kissed my cheek and put his over my cheek. "see you later baby", he smiled widely while looking up at the guy holding me. 

another swift motion and i was on the ground, glass onto my face and now my entire body. it was getting really hard to breathe and i looked up at riki across from me. his hand was in front of me and i held his hand. 

my entire life flashed before my eyes all at once, riki being the highlight of them all. our first date together, the day he asked me out, the time we got matching tattoos. everything. all gone all at once. 

"riki.." was all i was able to say before everything went black.
