A Not So Friendly Encounter

Y/N awakes to the sound of Duo hissing, and immediately gets up. Her naturally good night vision allows her to see well enough to navigate throughout the darkness. She sees a tall and bone thin humanoid figure standing in her living room. She reaches for the light, and before she knew it, the figure has already moved forward and begun attacking.

Y/N quickly ducks in front of the couch, the odd being tripping and falling onto the floor in front of her, allowing her to get a good look. It's a doppelganger, not a very convincing one, though. Y/N stands up, grabs a pen from off the coffee table, writes a rune on her arm, then holds out her hand towards the doppelganger and mumbles something under her breath. "I cast fireball." Then, just like that, the doppelganger is lit ablaze and burns to a crisp within moments, leaving no trace of it's existence.

"I am so glad that I have that book on spells and fairy tells... Fire is a common element, and so very easy to obtain.. Funny how it's a doppelganger's main weakness and yet no one realizes it. Idiots. I'm not tellin' them though. I'm too lazy." Y/N cleans up the ash, tosses it into her trash can, then heads to bed.

The Next Morning~

Y/N wakes up from yet another night terror. She goes to throw away a dead rat that Duo left on her bed again, when she sees that there's a brick in it. It's the ashes. Turns out, ashes turn into bricks when left out to long due to the moisture in the air. Y/N takes the ash trash brick, then just puts in on her shelf for decoration.

After making a very nice meal, Y/N steps into the hallway, bumping into the tired man from yesterday, this time, he's wearing a milkman uniform. "Oh, hi, sorry, uhm... I'm, uhm, Y/N, what's your name...?" Y/N looks like she's about to crumple into a pile of ash just like that doppelganger due to her overwhelming social anxiety. The man just looks very confused as he replies.

"I'm Francis... Nice to meet you. I have to go, I'm going to be late for work." And with that, Francis walks away, leaving Y/N all alone to rethink her entire existence up to that point. Y/N just walks the opposite way. Francis hears her walking away, turns around, and watches in sheer confusion as she walks into a dead end at the very end of the hallway, which, to be fair, is not a very long hallway.

"W...went the... then wrong... w...way..." Then, Y/N sprints full speed back to her room.

BAM!

"OW! Son of a... Ugh!" Y/N didn't manage to open the door before running into it. She holds her head in her hands, opens the door, and heads on in. Y/N grabs an ice pack from the freezer, lays down on the couch, and chills the fuck out.

+~Francis' POV~+

I woke up after almost half an hour of sleep and made a cup of coffee. After taking a moment to wake up, I headed out for the day. To my surprise, the lady next door bumped into me on her way out. She looks like she doesn't want to be near me. Does she think I'm a doppelganger? Do I look different today? She spoke in a rather afraid manner. "Oh, hi, sorry, uhm... I'm, uhm, Y/N, what's your name...?" She looks absolutely terrified. "I Should probably make an excuse and leave, I don't want to scare the poor girl any more than she already is. Living in an area infested with doppelgangers is tough, especially if it's your first time."

"I'm Francis... Nice to meet you. I have to go, I'm going to be late for work." "Okay, that worked well. Hopefully- wait, what's she doing" I heard Y/N's footsteps going the opposite way, but what confused me, is that that's a dead end over there. "Wow, she must really be afraid, she's walking straight into a dead end and not even realizing it."

"W...went the... then wrong... w...way..." Then, Y/N sprints full speed back to her room.

BAM!

"She didn't even open the door. That sounded like it hurt, a lot. Is she okay?" Y/N quickly opens the door and runs into her apartment, closing and locking it behind herself. Francis, being rather concerned and confused, simply walks away, retreating down the flight of stairs and out of the building.

+~Y/N's POV~+

"Oh my stars, that hurt so bad! Why'd I do that? Why am I so dumb?" I groan, annoyed at my own actions. Why did I have to do that? Why was it so hard to just turn the handle? And why'd I walk towards very clearly a dead end? "Ugh, if this is some book or whatever, the author needs to be nicer to me! How dare they!" I'm just going to go check to see if the bruise is noticeable.

As I enter the restroom, I take a look in the mirror. My forehead is slightly red, but overall, It's not too bad. I kind of want some food... There's a new restaurant nearby... Maybe I could go there? Nah. I haven't been put on today's list. I should call Henry and ask him to put me on there. Yeah, then I could go out and eat fancy.

And so, I'm calling. Ring. Ring. Ring. Pause. Ring. Ring. Ring. Pause. 'I'm sorry, the person you are trying to reach is not currently available. Please try again later."

     "That's odd..."
