I waited for my parents by watching Criminal Minds on Netflix, and let me tell you- it was a good 7 hours well spent.
Sometimes, I imagine what I'd do in their situations, that I had chosen to become an FBI profiler instead of a teacher. That I'd meet someone like Spencer...or Morgan. Then I'd remember I'd probably pee myself in about 99% of the situations they got themselves into.
Yes, with my luck, I'd die before I met some dreamy guy. But that is just one sorrow of life, nothing being as good as it seems.
When Miranda and my father got home I jumped up, feeling slightly dizzy as I reprimanded myself for being an idiot as I rubbed my now aching head and paused my current episode.
"We're home!" My father called out as I heard the jangle of his car keys and the click of Miranda's heels.
I practically ran to the kitchen in my excitement, popping out of the doorway, much to Miranda's surprise as she gasped, falling back into my father who caught her,"Gosh, I think I just had a heart attack!" Miranda gasped for breath, but I could see a growing smile."I-I got one." I said too excited to speak, my whole body on fire as a circus performed in my stomach.
"Got what honey?" My father asked fighting Miranda and looking at me with curious, icy blue eyes.
I just grinned,"A job. I, I got a job!" Miranda screamed, her face mirroring my own as we began jumping- or at least I did. She had heels on and she probably didn't feel like breaking them and hurting herself.
"That's fantastic! I'm proud of you!"My dad came over and picked me up, spinning me around as I laughed before setting me down and kissing me on the side of the head before whispering,"And I'm sure your mother is as well."
I could feel myself tearing up at his word as I hugged him, smiling through the tears,"Thanks daddy...I love you."
His chuckles vibrated his chest,"I love you too."
Suddenly more arms were wrapping around us as my dad and I looked surprised towards a happy Miranda who just blinked back at us,"What? Can't I hug my husband and beautiful- employed- daughter?" We just laughed, pulling her in closer.
Everything was perfect, even as we pulled away, the warmth of the family hug lingered making me feel warm and fuzzy on the inside as the circus ended. Miranda went to the fridge and pulled out an ice tea before looking at my dad and I,"Want anything?"
"Sure..." My dad trailed, distracted by something on his phone, scrolling through it as I nodded.
She rolled her eyes at my dad and pulled out three iced teas, handing me one before heading towards my dad where she pressed it against his cheek, waking him from his stupor with a start,"Cold!" Miranda and I just laughed as he took the drink, Ashe fake glared at her, trying not to smile. "That wasn't very nice..." He said lowly, his voice getting husky as Miranda continued to chuckle.
I took that opportunity to leave, knowing what would come out of their conversation was not something I would want to hear. "If you need me, I'll be in my room!" I called taking the steps Two at a time in an attempt to reach the top before the innuendos started.
I threw myself onto my bed, looking up at the ceiling as I took a few deep breaths, closing my eyes. Finally, my life was back on track, and soon- I'd be accomplishing my dream. With those happy thoughts, I fell asleep into a dream about what my new life would be...
I woke up to the smell of Chinese food, my mouth watering as my stomach growled. I got up, noting that my glasses had fallen off and grinned,"Man, I never get to come out anymore. She always keeps me locked in." On that note, I went down the stairs, picking my lips as I entered the kitchen.
Sure enough, Chinese takeout was waiting for me on the counter. "Good, I was just about to go up and wake you." Miranda said surprising me as she walked into the kitchen with her, now, empty plate.
"Oh, yeah. Thanks for the food." I smiled, my eyes turning back to the food.
She just laughed,"I didn't make it or anything, all I had to do was convince your father to order it."
I laughed, finished piling stuff on my plate only to notice I needed a bowl for hot and sour soup as well. It's been WAY too long since I'd last had Chinese food!
"Miranda have you seen- oh. Jin-Reia, your glasses...where are they?" Jim, Reia's father coughed as I smirked knowingly.
"I took them off pops. Got a problem with that?" He just coughed while Miranda looked confused.
"Now you're sounding more like Samuel...are you ok hon?" Miranda questioned, her eyebrows knit in confusion.
Before I could respond Jim cut in,"Ah, she's fine. Probably still uh, confused from waking up from her nap. Right J-Reia?" I just chuckled, finishing what I was doing as I picked up one of our trays to carry everything.
"Yeah, I'm just peachy. I just woke up so I'm still, queue fake yawn,"still tired."Miranda looked at me doubtfully before nodding, taking Jim and I's horrible excuse. And with that I headed back upstairs before Jim had to suffer anymore, laughing quietly to myself.
After I finished the Chinese food I figured it was about time to go and sighed, picking up her glasses before putting them on and blacking out.
I woke up with a start, noticing messy dishes on my dresser and sighed, knowing what had happened. Jinx had come out, and she had been hungry. I looked at the dishes and felt my stomach rumble, Chinese food! My favorite, and she had eaten it.
I picked up the tray and hurried downstairs, entering the kitchen to see Miranda putting them away. "Wait!" I exclaimed, startling her as a hand went to her chest.
"What is with you today? This is what, my third heart attack?" Miranda gasped, putting down the container of low mein.
I just laughed awkwardly ," Yeah...sorry about that. I'll put that stuff away, I'm still a bit hungry." She sighed, turning towards me.
"You must be really hungry seeing as you already ate enough for an adult man. Now how much? Enough for two people?" My stomach turned at her words as I gulped. She didn't know did she? Did my dad tell her about Jinx?
Dad walked into the kitchen playing on his phone.Speak of the devil and he shall appear,"Oh yeah, Reia, I've been meaning to ask you, what school will you be teaching at?" Miranda suddenly asked, my dad looking up from his phone and seeming relieved as he noted my glasses.
I guess Jinx really had come out..."-eia. Reia Ophelia Cross!" I jumped with a start, my eyes falling on Miranda as she tried to get my attention. She sighed,"Did you even hear a word I said?" I just have her a sheepish smile as she rolled her eyes and put her hands on her hips,"You're beginning to act scarily similar to Samuel and you haven't even met him yet... Where did you get a teaching job?"
My eyes widened,"Oh, yeah! Uhm, at some Maggiore Academy. Why?" I turned towards her as her eyes widened.
"M-Maggiore Academy? You got a job at Maggiore?!" I nodded, unsure what was so surprising about that.
"Wait, isn't that where Samuel goes to school?" My father questioned, putting his phone down as he looked at his startled wife.
"Y-yeah...and it's an all boys school with an entirely male staff." Miranda stammered, my own mouth dropping at her words.
What had I gotten myself into?
I knew I was an idiot for not reading the whole email!
