Chapter Five

The boy stood still. His eyes stared in shock, mouth agape, and he fell on his knees onto the muddy ground. Seconds later, he was screaming at the top of his lungs.

I was bewildered, moreover I felt terrified because I did not have any explanation for the dead lady whose feet were hanging before our faces. At that moment, I was so close to admitting my crime.

But that boy shifted the fault off my shoulders and took the blame for himself.

"It's all my fault..." he said. "Forgive me, Sis."

I felt light as a feather in an instance, innocent as a baby. I didn't know what his problem was, but all I knew was that he was the one who had killed her.

On the ground, the young murderer wept sorrowfully.

"Who are you?" I asked him.

"I am his brother."

"No, I mean your name."

"Henry," he offered, "Henry Hilber."

The boy continued to cry, not even curious about the distinguished gentleman before him.

"I'm Liam," I told him, "Liam Heisenberg."

And then his tears stopped abruptly, and I found him staring at me with eyes emptier than the sky in a stormy afternoon. Like the brainless and compulsive dog he was, he lunged at me and we both fell onto the muddy ground.

Two years ago, I dragged the dead bodies of my father and his wife to this very same spot.

I had tricked them into staying in a villa on the other side of this forest. We never reached that villa, though. It was too late for them.

This forest has been widely known as the Suicide Forest. People come here everyday to die.

No one would suspect a thing if they found my father and his wife's bodies hanging on a tree here.

And so, when I committed my third murder, I thought of the same thing.

But then there's this boy. Henry Hilber.

He looked very pitiful when he grabbed my collar and interrogated me. He spoke with the voice of a boy who had lost the last thing he loved so dearly.

"Why do you have my sister's last name?"

"Pardon?"

"Eureka Heisenberg! Her name's Eureka Heisenberg!"

I found it.
