It was a cold winter evening, my cheeks were flushed pink and my skin was white like the crystal snow laying on the ground. Goosebumps raise on my skin even after the layers of clothing put on it that was supposed to keep me warm. My breath was milky white as I breathed out. I just stared at the ground on an icy bench as the moon illuminated the snow.
"You look like hell," my friend Lane spoke walking in front of me.
"Wow thanks," I burry my face in my blue scarf trying to keep away from the cold biting from my skin.
"You should come inside, it's freezing out here!" tiny pieces of blonde hair fly in front of her blue eyes. She wrapped her arms around her petite frame.
I shake my head, "Actually, I think I am going to head home. I'm pretty tired."
I lied. I have never felt so awake.
Lane raises her eyebrow and gives me a frown. "You've only been her for like an hour though. Come inside it's really fun!"
"I just am not in the partying mood right-" she cuts me off by grabbing my wrist and dragging me inside. Warmth instantly engulfed me, my skin starting to regain feeling and beating the numbness of the cold. I slip off my jacket and gloves.
"Have fun, I'll get us some drinks," Lane whispers in my ear. That was Lane slang for, "I'm going to leave you right now, but I don't want to sound like an ass."
Rolling my eyes, I scan the room. People hunched over trying to hear each other over the deafening music, red plastic cups secure in their hands. This room was full of warm bodies, but I feel so isolated and alone. Ironic, isn't it?
Slipping out of the kitchen Lane left me in, I go and scope out the house. It looked nice other than all of the garbage scattered across the house and the reeking stench of alcohol spilled on the floor. I instantly feel sorry for the poor soul that has to clean this up.
I soon find myself going up the carpeted stairs, creaking at every step I make. Rounding corners, all of sudden I am in a room. My scarf felt constricting and hot, so untying the knot, I place it on the bed for a moment. The room was messy, the bed unmade, clothes strewn on the floor where the carpet should be, and aging food lying on top of the desk. Posters and record hang on the dark blue walls and books cover the shelves.
"What are you doing in here?" An annoyed voice called from behind me. "You can't be in here."
"This is a party, there was no sign that said I couldn't enter." I turn on my heels towards him. Long, brown curls fall across his emerald, stormy eyes. He was wearing a simple white t-shirt and his arms revealed many tattoos.
"Shut up," he rolled his eyes. "Who even are you? I didn't invite you."
"Like I said, it's a party, anyone shows up," I say frustrated with his rude behavior. "Who are you?"
"The owner of this house and host of this party," he grumbles.
"Well, you're a pretty bad host," I cross my arms.
"What do you mean?" he asks.
"Well, what are you doing up here hiding from your guests and yelling at one for just being curious," I smirk.
"You came uninvited to a party and are snooping through my room. You don't even know me."
"I bet you don't know half of the people at this party," I say.
"Whatever," he huffs through his plump pink lips, running his hands through his hair. "Can you just get out?"
I shrug my shoulders and start to head out of the room. Behind me I hear a door close and a click which meant he locked the door. Dick.
I decide I have had enough of Lane's "fun" so I go and try to find her. She was squished on the couch with ten people that was meant for four.
"Lane," I yell tapping her and immediately know she is intoxicated. Her blue eyes popped because of the redness surrounding them and her body was limp.
"Yeah," she slurs, with a sheepish smile on her face. Taking my face between her hands she begins to coo,"You're so pretty Del."
"I'm going home, you going to be okay without me?" I ask.
She starts to squeeze my cheeks, "So, so pretty. Pretty Delilah."
"Okay, you know what I am taking you home," I tell her. I can't let my best friend drive herself home in this state. "Come with pretty Del."
I grab her hand and pick her up from the couch. I shrug her coat on her and shove her hat on her head. Doing the same to myself, I feel as if I am missing something. Pushing the feeling aside I take Lane outside. She instantly squeals and runs to the snow dropping in it and throwing it in the air.
"Del! Del look! I'm a snow angel," her words are jumbled.
"Come here, you're going to freeze," I attempt to grab her.
"I'm warm," she snuggles in the ice.
Taking all of the strength I pull her from the snow and walk her to the car. Lane, acting like a child, whine and complains trying to reach for the snow.
I drive away with a very drunk Lane, leaving behind my scarf in the room of the boy who soon will be apart of my future.okay so this is really short but I didn't want to just do a long, boring, filler chapter. The chapters will get longer I promise! Thank you for reading.
