Alva walked up the street to her new school, silver hair flowing in the wind. She hoped she could blend in with the rest of the class and not stand out.
Her Father had sent her to this school so she could learn to use her ice magic without harming others. He also made Alva grow up thinking she killed her mother and her Father would never let her forget that. So, Alva shied away from everyone. But this wasn't easy since she always set off her magic on accident.
Alva rounded the corner and stopped to look a her new school. Her Violet eyes glistened in the sun as she looked around. Students buzzed all around the campus. A huge stone wall surrounded the school and beyond stood a stone palace. A walk led up to a roundabout with flowers on all sides.
The professor in charge of earth magic must have done this, Alva thought as she looked around.
As Alva was looking around, a light blue-haired boy ran into her, nearly knocking her over.
"Sorry, I should've been looking where I was going," He apologized.
He got up and offered his hand to Alva, but she blushed and got up on her own.
"It's fine," Alva told him. She looked up to see who it was. the boy had light blue hair that looked messy and cute blue eyes. Wait, did she like him? Alva turned on her heel to leave, but the boy called after her.
"Hay, the auditorium is that way."
Alva turned back around to see him pointing the other way. Flustered, Alva followed his fingers and started to walk away.
"Thank you," Alva said over her shoulder.
"No problem," He replied. As Alva left, the mystery boy smiled as he watched her leave.
Alva found the auditorium easily after that. She entered threw a large oak door and into a large room filled with chairs. Alva picked a chair near the far back and sat down.
A few minutes later, five people, Alva guessed professors, came in. The first was a small old man with a long gray beard, that looked as long as he was old.
The second looked like a ghost. His hair was white and so was his skin. If it wasn't for the bags under them, you could hardly see his gray eyes. He looked like he had never slept in his life.
The third to enter was a woman. she looked like the second man, but her face had some color to it. Her hair was in a high ponytail tied with a black ribbon and the wind-swept look of her hair matched her gray-blue eyes well. Alva wondered if she was related to that man in any way.
Two more people then entered. A woman with deep red hair and a man with flaming red hair. the man looked like he was trying to talk to her, but having no success. And the woman looked done with him. Her purple eyes were highlighted by the color of her off-the-shoulder dress.
The man following her, from what Alva could see, had two different eye colors. His right eye looked red and his left looked golden. he was wearing a white button-down shirt that was slightly unbuttoned at the top.
The last two people sat down on the stage and any talking in the hall went out. The old man stood up and looked around the room.
"Good morning everyone," He said.
The lady with the black ribbon in her hair was doing some kind of movement with her hands as he spoke.
"I am very pleased to see so many new faces this term. I want to introduce your professors now. Each magic type has its own professor and in the middle of the year, they will switch around so you may get to know each of them.
Now, the man to my left is the head of water and ice, Professor Blizzard," He gestured to the man with white hair, "And next to him is his sister, Professor Gale, head of wind," The lady that was moving her hands waved with a smile, "Next to Professor Gale we have Professor Mulberry, head of earth," The lady with red hair seemed to glare at the students. "And lastly, Professor Lava, head of the fire. I think you all know who your head of house is, so I will leave it there. Here you will learn how to use your magic to help and some cool tricks, too. Since finding those with magic is rare, I hope you all take time to mingle and make friends.
Classes start tomorrow at 7 am sharp. With that, I'll end my little speech so you can all settle in and be ready for tomorrow... Oh, and I am head of school, Professor Longg."
Professor Longg started to walk off the stage and Professor Blizzard grabbed his arm.
"Dismissed," Professor Blizzard said. His voice was cold and hollow.
All the students got up and so did the professors. Everyone rushed out the door, eager to look around the campus before dark.
Alva headed to Professor Blizzard to ask where the dorms were.
She found him talking to Professor Gale his sister right outside the hall. Alva walked up to them.
"Excuse me," Alva said almost in a whisper. The professors looked down at her and Professor Gale smiled.
"Yes? Do you need something?" She asked. Her voice was warm and inviting like a cool breeze on a hot day.
"Where are the dorms?" Alva asked. The siblings looked at each other. Professor Gale put a finger on her chin in thought.
"So that was what was missing from the headmaster's speech," She said. Professor Blizzard looked back at Alva.
"Which magic do you possess? The dorms are divided that way," Professor Blizzard said.
Alva looked down at her hands. Little ice crystals were starting to form on her fingers. Professor Blizzard looked down to see what see was looking at and saw the ice.
"Go in the main entrance and turn left. You'll see a sign telling you where to go from there," He told her. Alva looked up.
"Thank you," she said and went as directed.
Alva found the sign and figured the professor must have seen her ice. she hurried up the stairs and found a long hall of doors. Alva walked down and looked at each sign to see who was staying in it.
When Alva found her room, she opened the door to a lovely sitting area. There was a couch and carpet. And on the windows hung stunning velvet drapes. Off to the side stood a oak door. Alva went to open it and found a bed, along with all her things, neatly put away.
She walked over to her bed and fell, face first, onto it. Would she manage to blend in or stick out like a sore thumb. Alva closed her eyes to take a nap, and reflected on the events of the day so far.
