Swinging by A Thread

Chapter Two

Hour: 4:48 PM

Place: Massachusetts, USA

It had been three days since the incident with the infected, since then, the couple had been extremely careful to not make any loud noises. They had learned that the infected lost interest after a few hours of not smelling, seeing, or hearing anything and slowly start to drift away. Josephine and Anthony had burnt the bodies of the dead infected in their back yard and the body of the poor young dog. Afterwards, they just stayed locked in as always.

"We need more canned things, hon. We only have two cans of spaghetti and one can of baked beans. " Josephine said quietly, studying the pantry. "It looks like the electricity is still running on and off. I suggest you don't open the fridge."

"We could scavenge the food of the houses back there. It should be empty now. " Anthony suggested. "The people that lived in there are are dead. " He thought back to the zombified trio that made a light snack of their dog.

"I guess so. Let's eat a can of spaghetti now and head over there. I'll come with. "

The long sigh that emerged from Anthony after agreeing certified his girlfriend that he didn't want her to go. She didn't like being so over protected, she was the one that reacted promptly to the attackers a few days past.

Anthony spoke up slowly and quietly, as if not to startle his girlfriend.
"All I'm saying is that in your condition you shouldn't risk it, we can't risk it. You're too important to me." He ended the sentence with a drawn out sigh.

The young woman smiled at his concern, shaking her head. "It's still very small. I get that you're worried but we'll be in more danger if just one of us goes. After all, I'm only six weeks pregnant. "

Anthony's smile grew, his left hand rubbing small circles on Jossies slim stomach. A sense of pride growing within him. At that moment, he leaned in and kissed Jossie deeply, moving his right hand up to the back of her head to draw her in whilst a small moan resonated within her throat.
