Boredom. Solitude. Dullness. No one would've guessed it but that's the kind of day he was having. It was a sunny Thursday afternoon in the middle of April. The weather was gorgeous, he had the day off; he should've been out doing something. Having fun. Making memories. Instead, there he was, Dr. Archer Hussain, sitting on his phone, wondering if he made the right decision.
Up until four days ago, Archer had been dating Ms. Alina Raven—the latest in his long list of conquests. I say conquests because that's what they were to him. Meet, seduce, detach, repeat. Like clockwork. Everything came easy for him. His career was successful and rising. Women fell to their knees for him. To those who respected him, he was a gentleman and a friend. For those who didn't, he was the Devil incarnate. Fear itself. "Lucifer".
But, as I was saying, Sunday morning, Archer woke up to something wonderful—or more accurately, someone. His childhood best friend, Amara D'Angelo, had just added him back onto her snap; a moment he'd been waiting for for years. You see, Lucifer was in love with D'Angelo, had been for over a decade now—the devil in love with the angel, funny how that works, huh? Sadly however, Amara was the one woman Archer wanted but never could get. Five years ago, she started seeing her current boyfriend, Jackson, and slowly started to cut Archer out of her life, until one day she stopped responding altogether and even unadded him on snap. Archer, however hard he tried, could not bring himself to unadd her, block her, or even forget her, always checking her story to keep up to date on her life and make sure she was okay. Ever since she left the light inside of him had dimmed and he embraced the darkness within.
That, however, is all in the past now. On that Sunday morning, when he first picked up his phone to do his morning routine, checking the news and his emails, he was greeted by something different, perhaps the best notification that godforsaken yellow app had ever sent him:
(¯'*•.¸,¤°'✿.。.:* 卂ᗰαʳα *.:。.✿'°¤,¸.•*'¯) just added you back! And the timestamp next to it? 5h. That's all he needed to see.
Next thing he knew, he was aggressively shaking his soon-to-be ex-girlfriend awake instead of the usual cuddles and kisses she'd been getting from him for the last month or so. She awoke abruptly, startled and cranky.
"What?" Alina snapped.
"Excuse me?" he answered back, not having any of her attitude. "What's with the tone?"
"It's 9:30 on a Sunday morning, Arch." she said, stretching and yawning. "You might be used to being up at the buttcrack of dawn everyday, but I'm not. Now, unless there was an actual reason for waking me up, I'm going back to sleep." At this, she turned over and got comfortable again.
"There–" he started to explain but before he could even finish the first sentence she had passed out again.
Ugh, this is what I get for trying to dump her in a nice way. Well, onto plan B.
He got up, got ready, and wrote a note for Alina.𝐼'𝓂 𝑔𝑜𝓃𝑒 𝓉𝑜 𝓉𝒽𝑒 𝑔𝓎𝓂, 𝐼'𝓁𝓁 𝒷𝑒 𝑜𝓊𝓉 𝒶𝓁𝓁 𝒹𝒶𝓎. 𝒲𝑒'𝓇𝑒 𝒹𝑜𝓃𝑒. 𝑀𝒶𝓀𝑒 𝓈𝓊𝓇𝑒 𝓎𝑜𝓊 𝑔𝓇𝒶𝒷 𝒶𝓁𝓁 𝓎𝑜𝓊𝓇 𝓈𝓉𝓊𝒻𝒻. 𝐼 𝓌𝒶𝓃𝓉 𝓎𝑜𝓊 𝑔𝑜𝓃𝑒 𝒷𝓎 𝓉𝒽𝑒 𝓉𝒾𝓂𝑒 𝐼'𝓂 𝒷𝒶𝒸𝓀 𝒻𝑜𝓇 𝓈𝓊𝓅𝓅𝑒𝓇.
–𝐿𝓊𝒸𝒾𝒻𝑒𝓇Sticking the note on the fridge, he grabbed his breakfast and protein shake on his way out the door. As soon as he stepped out in the sunlight, he took a nice, deep breath in. He was going to make the most out of this opportunity.
It's time.
