I laid in bed one morning and patted the empty spot next to me. "Finn?" I asked as I heard the toilet flush.
"I'm over here." Said Finn as he stood in the bathroom doorway in nothing but his boxers. "What's up Ollie?" He asked as I sighed.
"I was just wondering where my big strong hubby went." I said as he walked over and jumped into bed.
"The same place I've always been since college, in your bed." Said Finn as he leaned down and kissed me softly. "Happy Anniversary." He said as I put my hand on his chest.
"Happy Anniversary." I said as he smiled.
"Alright I'm gonna get a robe on and go make you a special, 10 year anniversary breakfast." Said Finn with a smile.
"Well I better come downstairs with you so that my stove doesn't catch fire." I said as I got out of bed.
"Hey I cook!" Said Finn as I looked at him.
"Since when?" I asked him as I followed him out of our bedroom.
"Last week I made us burritos." Said Finn as we walked down the stairs.
"Taking left overs and microwaving them in a tortilla does not equal cooking or a burrito." I said as he laughed. We went downstairs and had breakfast that I cooked not Finn. After we ate we checked the time and knew we had to get to work. "So what do you have planned for our 10 year anniversary?" I asked Finn as I slid on my dress shirt.
"You'll just have to see after work today." Said Finn with a smile as he kissed my cheek.
"You are such a romantic!" I said softly as I grabbed the collar of Finn's polo and pulled him in for a deep passionate kiss.
"Meet me in my office during our lunch period." Said Finn as I nodded.
"Oooh I can't wait." I said as I buttoned up my shirt. I threw on my cashmere sweater and my brown tweed blazer then Finn and I headed off to work together.Finn and I worked together at Peterson K-12 school, he teaches Gym class for every grade but was also the baseball coach for the boys high school level team, I teach Sophomore English class and run the school's literary magazine called Magic Words. I usually love teaching students about literature and the limits of their own imagination but this year has become a little more difficult than in past years.
Now I've dealt with difficult students in the past but Nathaniel Puck is another story entirely. Nathaniel or as he prefers to be called by his last name, Puck is the star pitcher on Finn's baseball team, so far they've won every game he's been a part of but Puck seems to struggle in my class. He failed our classroom assessment, which was a test I typically handed out on the first day just to see what areas my students needed to work on but Puck barely got 5% of the test correct. I hoped it was more due to ignorance than lack of effort so I tried to give him more attention than the other students as I knew he needed it but it was like the boy didn't even care to know a thing I was teaching him. I tried extra credit, lessons at lunch, lessons after school, I offered as much help as I could to the boy without having to resort to failing him but he didn't even try so I gave him an F in every grade I could give him in my class. Our school has a strict policy about extracurricular activities including sports, clubs, and any productions put on by the school, if you don't pass all your classes with at least a D as your lowest grade then you don't get to participate until the grade reaches our standard minimum.
After I failed Puck and told him that until he put effort into my class he would not be playing baseball, I went to go home after school and found my car vandalized. Red F's had been spray painted all over the windows and doors, the back window had some very homophobic curse words spray painted on it, my windshield was busted in obviously by a baseball, and my tires were slashed. Luckily that day Finn had scheduled off because he needed to help his little sister move her things into her college dorm so I called him to give me a ride home.
The worst part was nothing was done about it because the teacher's parking lot has no cameras unlike the student parking lot so there was no evidence that he did anything to my car. I wanted to file a police report for vandalism but Finn begged me not to and promised that he would talk with Mr. Puck so I trusted him.
I haven't heard anything since that promise was made a week ago and Puck's behavior just seems to be getting worse, he's become completely disruptive during class and has started cheating off the test of my most engaged student Mollie Henderson. She's reported him to the principal's office twice for cheating off her tests and all he's gotta was two days of in house suspension.
Luckily today was not only Friday but also the last day before Thanksgiving break so I would have a whole week without having to deal with the little shit and I was most certainly looking forward to it.
