SIDE STORY =

Penelope Regulus, formerly known as Siyeon Cha and Penelope Eckhart, is the main protagonist of Villains Are Destined to Die. She is the adoptive daughter of Duke Eckhart, and the adoptive sister of Derrick Eckhart, Reynold Eckhart, and the late Ivonne Eckhart. She is the spouse of Shiro Asashi and the mother of Judith Regulus. She is the current empress of Eorka.

Before she transmigrates into Penelope's body, she had fair skin, long black hair, and grey eyes. According to her Korean father, both Siyeon and Penelope have stray hairs tucked behind their ears, the dimples, and mole on the inside of her wrist. Penelope is described as an extremely beautiful girl. She has a cold, expressionless, and cat like face. She has reddish pink hair reaching down to the level of her waists. Her hair color is close to red rather than pink. She has emerald, turquoise eyes that are almond-shaped. As the adopted daughter of the duke and the empress, she wears clothes befitting of her status, most of them having dark colours. In the novel, most of her clothes are in shades of red, green, and black. In the manhwa, most of her clothes are in shades of purple.

After years of abuse, the protagonist has become a cold-hearted and independent person. She can also be very sarcastic. Because she grew up in a loveless house, she is very cynical when people show concern for her. This cynicism gets worse after possessing Penelope Eckhart's body. As a result of dying multiple times on Hard Mode, she constantly fears that anyone and anything could kill her. She also often assumes the worst in people. Desperate to go back to her life in Korea, she would do anything to go back to her original world. At the beginning, she's insensitive to others, seeing everyone as nothing but characters from a game. Despite expressing empathy toward the real Penelope, she often thinks of her as a "foolish" and "stupid" girl. She sees most people as pawns like Emily. She manipulates Eckles, using him as a mean to an end to achieve a good ending. As the story progresses, she develops many emotions toward the people she once saw as characters: she falls in love with Callisto, she is attached to Emily, the duke, and the young sorcerers, she hates Derrick. Nevertheless, the protagonist isn't heartless. She does have a compassionate and empathetic side, as she can see herself in the original Penelope. She also doesn't hesitate to intervene Callisto from interrogating and punishing the brainwashed children who attacked during the imperial banquet. Indeed, despite claiming that she has difficulty interacting with children, she has a soft spot for them. When Penelope sees that Laon and some children are about to be kidnapped by some remnants of the Holy Nation of Laila, she doesn't hesitate to go save them and is more worried about their safety than Winter's Affection Score.
