I just want to clarify that I know that solby isn't real, and if you have a problem with what I'm writing then you probably shouldn't be here. Now that that's out of the way, I want this story to match up perfectly with what happened the night that "Nice of You" came out, and I know that most of the things in this fic did not happen, but this is just a fic and it's for my solby fandom out there. Even though all we know is they went on a night drive, I'll be writing the events that led up to that moment and even a bit after. Also I am aware that Colby and Kat are still friends, but in this fic were just gonna say they aren't on bad terms, but they're also not friends. This is in no way hate to Kat, in fact I love kat and her music. Have fun reading! (This is posted on Ao3 as well)
I apologize for the terrible formatting, It's 10x better on Ao3 if you wanna go check that one out. My username is: Sallieupsamsahh (Don't judge it's funny).
Colby BrockScrolling on my phone was one of the easiest tasks on a random Thursday night. It was quiet throughout the house, but the echoing of my phone ringing caused me to jump. It was Jake Webber. I clicked decline, not in the mood to talk to anyone, but a few minutes later the ring returned.
"Yeah, man?" I asked, clearly annoyed.
"Have you heard Kat's new song?"
"No, why should I care?" I rolled my eyes, quick to grab my laptop from the corner of my bed.
"It's been out for two hours, and she dissed on Sam hard," he said into the line.
"You're kidding." I growled, looking up Katrina's Spotify label. It was true, I scanned the lyrics and shook my head. "Sam and Katelyn broke up." I stated.
"I know, I guess Sam never told her," Jake said as I sighed, leaning on the back of my headboard. "I'm gonna go check on Sam, talk to you later bro." I hung up on Jake, lazily standing up and cupping my face in my hands before exiting my room. I found my way to my Sam's room, his door shut and locked. He never kept his door locked.
"Sam?" I knocked on the door softly. A few seconds later I went to knock again but the door opened just a crack wide enough to where I was met with the sad gaze of my best friend, who looked as if he had been crying. "Can I come in?" I asked softly. Sam nodded and opened the door wider for me to enter. I noticed his room was a bit messy. His room was always clean, which slightly confused me as I walked on the carpet that was littered with clothes. Sam got back in his bed without saying a word, sitting up against the headboard.
"Do you think I was in the wrong for moving on in six months?" Sam asked me, desperate for guidance.
"No, Sam," I began, sitting on the side of his bed beside him, "You needed a fresh start. You were with her for a very long time, 6 months was enough time to get your head straight. You moved on, Kat just can't," I explained to him.
"Not when I had no reason to get with Katelyn. I don't even understand why my dumbass thought it would be a good idea to get with her. We had nothing in common and none of the fans even liked her." He shook his head, his voice breaking as he spoke.
"We already discussed this, bud, I know how hard it is to listen to your ex girlfriend write music about you, especially when millions of our fans can hear, but I also want you to know that those real fans out there won't turn on us no matter what." I grabbed his hand as I spoke. I knew Sam was worried about losing supporters that took Katrina's side.
