The clock ticks at the end of the hall. 23:58.
Two minutes.
The servants start to panic, frantically unning around, well aware that these last two minutes of Christmas Eve are their last. Each and every single one of them are looking for their family, friends, partners. And in the midst of them:
Lumiere and Cogsworth are desperately searching.
Lumiere is yelling, screaming, "Fifi! Fifi, mon cheri, where are you? Please, Fifi!"
However, Cogsworth is actually searching for Lumiere.
"Lumiere? L-Lumiere!" He calls, but to no avail.
Until suddenly, he spots the candelabra near the kitchen door.
"Lumiere! Lumiere, over here, please, old friend." He tries to run to him, but his legs are already almost too stiff to move.
"...Cogsworth?" Lumiere turns around.
23:59. One minute.
"Lumiere!" Cogsworth yells back, almost in tears. Or he would be, if he still could. "I- Lumiere, I'm sorry, I really- I..." He can barely find the words to say, panicking with every passing second. And suddenly it hits him.
He wasted his whole life.
He spent his whole life, perfecting every duty, people-pleasing, living his life by the rules. Not a single time did he consider what he was feeling. Ever since he was a child, through his life in the navy, every single day in the castle was spent focusing on someone else.
"...I'm- sorry." He splutters.
"For what?"
"For everything. Anything and everything I've ever said, I- I... I'm sorry, I'm sorry-" Cogsworth repeats over and over again, hoping that he is indeed getting his message through.
"I know, Cogsworth. I know."
23:59:45. Fifteen seconds. The servants stop, most of them having found their loved ones. Alas, no one was going to love the prince. And now, no one ever will.
Cogsworth thinks of what to say. He couldn't let his feelings go, no matter how hard he tried.
"Lumiere, I-"
Five seconds.
"Yes?" Lumiere whispers, his voice barely noticeable, as all life slowly begins disappearing from the castle.
Three seconds.
"I love you, Lumiere."
Cogsworth's final words.
Lumiere now stands still, frozen, an expression of shock plastered across his now motionless face. A mantle clock stands beside the a candelabra;
Now striking twelve.
