My eyes blink open, and I am greeted with fuzzy vision as I fully regain consciousness. With a small yawn, I slowly shift my body to sit upwards. In a nearly instant reaction, my head is seized with a sharp pain. I let out a quiet wince as the throbbing in my head intensifies. I struggle to recall the night before, but the memories suddenly flood back at once. My mind replays the flashbacks when I downed shots while conversing with my despised boss. Though, if I remember correctly, I didn't completely hate it. Considering he's the same guy who tricked me into a deal, I'm not entirely sure how that's possible.
Another wave of aching hits, and I groan, leaning my head back against the wall. My eyes lazily drift to the clock on my nightstand. As much as I'm dreading it, I have work today. The alcohol should leave my system relatively soon, hopefully. After one last minute of peace, I drag my body out of bed to get ready. I change into my usual attire, and since there are a few minutes to spare, I get a cup of coffee together for myself. That should help with this gut-wrenching hangover.
As I leave my apartment, I take small sips of the warm coffee, thankful that my head is no longer pounding like when I first woke up. I soon arrive at the building and toss my empty plastic cup in the trash beside the entrance before walking inside. On my way to my office, I notice some of the seamstresses in a huddle, exchanging hushed whispers with one another. I ignore the fact that they are certainly slacking off. I may be Velvette's favorite, but I'm no snitch.
Once in my office, I sit down, breathing out a sigh of relief to be off my feet. I let my eyes close for a moment as I think over what I need to get done for the day. A loud beep from the phone causes my eyes to shoot open. I lean over my desk, pressing down the button.
"Y/n, come over to my office. I need to talk to you about something." I hear Velvette's voice on the other line.
I try to ignore the anxiety bubbling up inside me as I wonder what she could be referring to. "Of course. I'll be right there."
With that, I take my finger off the button and head to Velvette's room. I can't help but question if it's something to do with the dress I just stitched up. Second thoughts enter my mind, debating whether or not I made clean stitches. Could she regret the promotion I was just given? I shake all the negative thoughts away as I knock on the door. A few seconds later, she tells me to come inside.
I open the door, closing it behind me before facing her. "You wanted to see me?"
It isn't until after I finish my sentence that I notice the person standing beside her. My eyes widen as I make direct eye contact with the man I was drinking with just the prior night. I find it ironic how both of my bosses are in the same room as me. Of course, I hardly mean that as a good thing.
Velvette smiles. "Yes. I have exciting news for you."
My gaze switches from Velvette to Vox as questions flood my mind. "What is it?"
He laughs, surely detecting the concern on my face. "It's good news. Nothing to be worried about," he assures with a grin.
I nod slowly, not exactly sure if I should take his word for it. His idea of 'good news' may be far different than mine.
"Vox came to me this morning and asked if he could interview you for his news broadcast tomorrow. Of course, I agreed for you," Velvette explains.
I can't hide the shock in my facial features as I listen to her words. I remember Vox asking me for my opinion on who to interview, and I suggested someone who made a recent achievement. I didn't realize he'd even consider me.
"No need to thank me. Your reaction is more than enough," he says with an amused tone.
I blink a couple of times, unsure what emotion to feel at the moment. "I- wow. Tomorrow? That's very soon," I comment with a nervous laugh.
