It was rather quiet inside Graceland with no laughter coming from the rooms or voices coming out of the radios or tvs. You could hear a pin drop. The kids were in the backyard playing a game while their father was working in his private office upstairs in the mansion, trying to figure out how he was going to get back into doing tours. Where did he start? It took him nearly ten minutes of silent thinking before he got an idea of who to call, picking up the phone to the right of his desk and dialing a number. He pushed together his thin brows in annoyance at hearing the continuous ring, becoming more and more impatient with each passing second
Finally, a voice came through on the other end. "Hello?"
"Jerry, it's Elvis. I was wondering if you could help me out by promoting and booking shows for me, I'm looking into doing tours again." He was nervous that Jerry would decline and he'd have to start from square one again on who to ask for help
"Sure, not a problem. But only if your wiz kid can help me." Jerry half joked with his best friend
"Which one?" Elvis smirked
"Very funny, you know damn well which one." Jerry laughed a bit
"You got me there."
"When do you want to get out on the road?"
"As soon as possible."
"I'll try to have your first show ready within a month or so depending on where you want to start."
"Why not start in California and work our way across the map?"
"You really think Julia would let you be gone for that long?"
"Probably not. I'll talk to you soon." Elvis said before hanging up and dialing another number. He talked with Bill Belew about making some more jumpsuits for his upcoming tour which Bill was more than happy to do for one of his best customers, Elvis hanging up the phone and jotting down a few things on a piece of scrap paper
Olivia stopped in her dads office to be nosy and see why he had been cooped up in the small space for most of the day. "Discussing business without me?"
He jumped a bit at being startled by his oldest child, leaning back in the black leather chair. "How'd you know?"
"You have a certain look on your face." Olivia walked to a chair in front of his desk and sat down, glancing at the upside down writing on the paper in front of him but he was quick to put a hand over top of it
"I can't help it, it's my face." He observed her for a minute before changing the subject, remembering what Jerry had asked. "Would you like to come on tour with me, baby? Jerry could certainly use your help."
"I can't, I have work." She was quick to answer him, watching as a smile appeared on his handsome face
"Quit your job and work for me. It'll be fun and you'll get to sight see while also spending time with your old man and uncle Jerry." He suggested in an attempt to bribe her
"No thanks, I have responsibilities." Olivia stood up and went for the door when she stopped at hearing Elvis reply in a calm tone, "I'll pay you triple what your job pays you."
That sneaky man child and his charm
If only she had been blessed with that same charm to get her way most of the time
"When do we leave?" She turned to look at the grinning southerner who was clearly more than happy that he got what he wanted
"Jerry's supposed to let me know soon, I'll keep you posted." And with that Elvis got up to go check on his one year old twin babies, Preston and Claire, who were both alert when he entered the nursery and spotted Julia leaning against their daughters crib, glancing over her shoulder at him. "Hi Elvie."
