Heinrich von Kleist chose a historical blink-of-an-eye event to entertain the audience. The tsarist forces march towards their displacement. Kleist wanted to make exactly the point. In a moment of political lack of impact, the individual suffers his fate without being able to adorn himself with a historically powerful brand. The scene conjured up by Kleist is kept flowing by a grotesque undercurrent.
The losers leave the field.
What happened before
Julietta's father, Colonel Lorenzo G... (three points after Kleist), loses out as the chief defender of the citadel of M.. Julietta and her children search in vain for protection in various places in the fort. Finally "(Julietta) encounters a squad of enemy snipers who, upon seeing her, hangs their rifles over their shoulders and carries them away with hideous gestures". A Russian officer intervenes powerfully. He scatters "the dogs". Julietta recognizes him as an angel.
This is how it continues
The commander's family must give way to a warlord. The colonel could retreat to his estates. Country life doesn't suit him. So he and his family settle in M.; in conditions that are spatially below the citadel. This is not realistic at all, but that is how it is described. The failed person retreats into modesty. Every day he takes his hat off to the Russian winner. He dodges the Russian patrols in the poop. He may also be available to provide information.
Let's not forget this: Julietta's father completes the humiliating program without need. He could otherwise abseil somewhere else and act like a private citizen instead of constantly visualizing defeat. The same amount. Julietta teaches her kids. "She keeps her easel and books ready for the ceremonies." She is surprised that she is never completely comfortable. She knows herself to be a healthy, strong person. Something's wrong.
We already know where the bug is. One morning, Julietta makes a garland of fussiness for her mother. At the core of the debauchery is the assumption of pregnancy in the sense that if a friend told me that she was in the same situation as I am currently, I couldn't help but think she was in a blessed state.
The mother acts hard of hearing. She appears stiff-necked. The daughter makes another attempt. Embarrassed, Ms. von G... makes a joke of the matter; since she would only be taken into Morpheus's arms.
