He woke up to the sound of a harsh buzzing noise. It emanated through the room, disrupting his peaceful slumber. With cracks and pops in his joints, he sat up. Slamming his paw on the alarm clock before yawning. Lazily, he scratched at the large portion of fluff around his neck. He was told that it was electric, and that it would hurt him, but it didn't affect him. Jeremy, Jeremy was his name. He was still adjusting to his new life in the electric district. There were glowing lights everywhere, it was nothing like his old home. There it was quiet and peaceful. He was half convinced he was the only one who slept in this city. Groaning, he opened his window. Some younger children were playing on the basketball court. They appeared to belong in the same species. Same tail, same legs and arms, same ears. It was your defining trait, and yet they all fit together, like a well-made puzzle. He sighed with discontentment, he could not remember the last time he saw his friends, or his family. He could barely remember what the past was like. Or what had changed it. All he knew was that he was here, alone, with nothing but his speed and his combat skills. He remembered the day when he left his home, it was all he knew of his past. That day had started out amazing, he was told that he was going to evolve, what he didn't know was that he wouldn't be coming home. There were scary doctors, they stuck him full of pins and needles and forced him to sleep. He didn't know what they did to him while he was out, but when he woke up, he was different. His brown fox-like tail was replaced with a more spiky and spread out one. His ears were now yellow, and so was the rest of his body. The mane around his neck had become a lot more rough and hard to handle, it was strange. He was brought into a room to adjust to the changes and to learn how to control his new powers. He was only there for a couple of days though, before he knew it, he had been drugged up again and brought to this building, they said it was his home. But he knew it wasn't, home was quiet and warm, this place bustled at all times of day. It didn't matter now though, they said the changes were irreversible. No matter how hard he tried, he would always live here, and have this body.

...

or so he thought

It had been a warm spring morning when he went to check the mail. There was the same junk as always, charge boosting pills, magazines, wrong addresses, one thing stood out from the rest, however. It had a fancy red ribbon, with coffee and ink stains all over the package. He picked it up in his paw, disposing of the rest of the junk mail before swiftly ripping open the envelope with his teeth. The envelope contained a letter, a check, and a set of coordinates. With curiosity, he picked up the letter.

"Dear Jeremy

Poke CO is offering you a once in a lifetime opportunity. You will be representing your district in a tournament to the death. You will be working with 8 other people, them all being from other districts. In the envelope, you will find a pair of coordinates to our current meeting location and a 5000 dollar check. The check can only be processed if you attend the meeting, otherwise, you can shred it.

We will meet today at 12 PM sharp, do not be late, the guards will not let you in otherwise

-Sincerely, Saxton-"

The letter was dropped on the table, it sounded like a sick joke, probably from one of the kids living in his building. Exploring the rest of the envelope's contents however, changed his mind. The check had his full name, his banking account, it was all official. It was from the person in the letter, Saxton.

“What da Hell! How did dis guy get my bank number? How does he know who I am?” He stuttered out, digging his paws into his head. ‘He had two options: attend the meeting, potentially make 5000 dollars, and get his information back. Or, he could stay home, shred the check and pray that his information wasn’t leaked. But the letter said fight to the death, was he going to die?’ He thought to himself, sighing with annoyance. “I guess I'll get in the shower and get ready..? This is my best bet…” He whimpered to himself, then neatly shoved the contents back into the envelope. The shower was soon occupied…
