“Since when did you work here?” She asked.

She invited the waiter to have a little chat. The waiter is actually her childhood friend who moved out from this town 5 years ago.

The name is Asher.

She stares at him. Then, a glimpse of memories from her past flashing back at her.

She remembered it very well. The first time they met, it was a rainy day. School has just ended, and other students are already going back to their homes. She decided to find a shelter while waiting for her mother to invite her.

“Hello.” She turned to a boy who just greeted her.

A black haired boy with pretty eyes. She was stunned. “Uh- Hi.” She replied. The boy smiled and said “You're waiting for your parents too?”. Micaela nodded.

Then the both of them had a chat and became friends.

Micaela was not much of an extrovert girl. She's always alone and decided to mind her own business. It was always Asher who began the conversation.

She looked at him. A young boy who used to be a little bit shorter now has grown to be much taller than her.

How fast does time pass?

“My family decided to move back in” He smiled. “It's been so long, and you still recognize my face?”

She looked at him with a smirk “Of course, dummy. We've been friends for so long. Plus, you haven't changed much since the last time we've met. It's just a bit taller and with a different hairstyle.”.

“You haven't changed much too, you know.” He said.

“So, are you studying somewhere in this town? Or just started a working life?” She asked him. “Oh, tomorrow will be my first day in Kestramore Academy.”

She gasped, then smiled “Guess we are fated to be together like we used to”

He laughed, “so I guess you're studying there too? What a coincidence”.

“Oh how I miss spending time with you, Cae. We used to be very close back then.” She smiled hearing what he said. She misses all those old days, too. Times where they have all that to play and enjoy themselves.

Times when she didn't have anything to be worried about. Times when she didn't feel the pressure like she felt now.

“Well, I need to go back to work now. It worries me if my manager takes patrol to check on her staff.” He says, getting up from his chair.

“See you tomorrow” He winked. She waved and smiled.

‘I feel more relaxed now.’ She looked at her coffee and took a sip. ‘He has cheered up my day. Like he always does.’ She smiled to herself.

‘Oh right. I need to search for that guy tomorrow. I guess I will be a bit busy then.’ She sighed.

She looked outside the window, admiring the beauty of the weather. She closed her eyes.

—-------

She walked down the street after spending a while at the coffee shop.

Micaela never expected to meet her childhood friend, the one that she thought would leave her and never come back.

It's been 6 years since 5th grade, their last meeting, and their first goodbye.

It's quite hurt losing a friend and the thought that they'll find it hard to meet each other again like they used to.

Asher is the only person she can talk to and forget all of her problems.

It took a while for her to recover from the loneliness. He is the only friend she has. She felt lost and helpless.

It was many years ago that she decided to move on and make new friends. Two years ago, she met Alice. She is a nice girl with a bright personality, and she always cheers her up.

Alice's behaviour and characteristics reminded her of Asher. Little by little memories of them together glimpse back to her.

Well, the past is the past. She has learned to move on and just enjoy her life while she can.

She just has one more problem that's always bothering her.

Her own mother. Her one and only family member.

Since she was a little kid, her mother would tell her what she lacked and praised other kids in front of her. She often felt upset about that.

Her father was a hero to her. Every evening, she would wait for her father to come back from work. He was a great man, supporting the father and responsible husband.

He is the reason why she was studying so hard and achieving so much.

As she walked, she tried to close her eyes. Everything was great back then.

How did things go so wrong?

‘If I hadn't been a naughty girl and disobeyed my mother, he'd still be alive until now…’

She opened her eyes, a clear tear falling down her cheek.

Every time she thinks about her father, she can't help but feel guilty.

She indeed loves her mother, too, but losing her father leaves a big wound.

Even time is not enough to heal her wound. Her wound will never heal.

After a long walk, she arrived at her door. She wonders if her mother is still mad.

Slowly, she opened the door.
