It was the sound of her phone chiming again that drew Hanni out of her tears and made her raise her head. It was a text, and as she pulled her phone from her pocket, she was surprised to see it was from Hyein, of all people. Hearing from her former best friend was unexpected, but a welcome distraction at the moment.

Hey, girl, u busy?

Hanni grinned at the informality. There was a time she thought she'd never see Hyein again - in fact, she'd hoped she wouldn't - but now she was relieved to have someone there to take her mind off things.

No. But if you happen to see my dad, then yes, Hanni typed back.

"I wasn't planning on seeing your dad… but speaking of dads…."

You found something about your dad?

No. Literally nothing at all. So maybe wanna come help me out? This is super frustrating, so I could use the company tbh

Yeah me too. Where r u?

Twenty minutes later, Hanni had herself cleaned up as best she could and she was on her way to meet Hyein at the library.

"So… you think the answer is gonna be here?" Hanni asked, unconvinced, as she glanced around the library's shelves.

"No," Hyein sighed, looking up from the open book on the table she was seated at. "It's just quiet here, and private. I have all my mom's old journals and stuff. I'm looking for clues, or whatever."

Hanni nodded and joined Hyein at the table. "So… she doesn't know who your father is, but you think the answer will be in one of her journals?"

Hyein shrugged. "Probably not, but I have to start somewhere, right? And what the hell is wrong with you? You look like shit… no offense."

Hanni swallowed hard. "I, uh, I broke up with Sunghoon."

"Oh, sorry Hanni," Hyein said, offering a small smile. "But don't be sad. He was a major douche canoe anyway. You can do better."

"Can I?" Hanni asked, raising an eyebrow. Sure, she agreed with Hyein's assessment of Sunghoon, but could she really do better? Her track record seemed to say no.

"Yes. But let's not talk about that right now. Here, help me," Hyein insisted, handing a journal to Hanni.

Hanni sighed and opened the journal. She wanted to help Hyein, and she'd promised she would, but her heart just wasn't in it. She forced herself to push her own problems from her mind, to help her friend, as she started skimming the first page.

"Why does scouring your mother's journals for information about your father seem dangerously close to a scene from Mamma Mia! to me?" Hanni muttered, glancing up at Hyein.

"Well, it's kind of where I got the idea," Hyein admitted. "Wanna sing some Abba with me?"

Hanni smirked and shook her head, turning back to the book in front of her. At least Hyein hadn't changed in one regard: she was good at making Hanni forget about her problems, at least for a little while.

Shit, she thought to herself, as she quickly realized this particular journal entry was about the first time Haerin met Minji. Fucking figures.

Hanni furrowed her brow as she got further into the journal, quickly realizing that this 'friendship' between Minji and Haerin had been a whole lot more than that. She'd chosen not to comment the night before, but she had been sure that hadn't been Minji's first time with a woman, and she was sure if she got much further in this journal, she would soon be reading about that, too.
