Natalie was 8 years old when she developed mental illness. Depression to be exact. Her mother was abusive but Natalie didn't know as she had been used to living this way. She didn't realise that her mother's cruel punishments were abuse. There were times that her mother would try to push her down the stairs or screamed profanities at her and called her a whore. She thought it was normal.
Natalie went to bed at around 6:00 pm ready for school the next day. She was crying hysterically. Looking in the mirror her tiny hands pulled up her baggy sleeves and wiped the tears away roughly which left red splodges on her face that burned. She climbed up the unstable ladder to her bunk bed and took her Teddy bear into her arms. She thought that he was real and she hugged him so tight that sometimes she would cry even more afraid that she had killed him.
She decided to get some sleep or at least try.
At the age of 8 years old you would expect her to be dreaming of fairies or princesses or at least thinking about them. But no. Natalie liked to think about if she was in one of the many books she read that she could escape this dreadful world. If only she could be Alice tumbling down the rabbit hole. But instead of a happy ending her mind led her to a horrible realisation. She was a girl of glass and would smash into pieces as she landed. Blood splattering a she tries to put herself together again.
Natalie cried even louder. Sobbing.
She stopped hearing malevolent stomps up the stairs.
...
Her mother swung open the door and yanked her down.
Screaming for her to shut up.
Natalie screamed and screamed and screamed.
Her mother picked up her Bear and scissors and cut him open chucking it at Natalie.
She then left.
Natalie really was broken like glass now , not physically but mentally.
