I dropped off my mom at the hospital in Lando and now I'm heading to The Damsel Hotel.
I should introduce myself. I am 19 years old and because of my mom's illness I'm forced to live with my relatives in our hometown aka Lando. I have black hair and brown eyes, I'm 5'3, and I'm a tomboy. I heard that I've inherited most of my father's genes and that he's a jerk for leaving me and my mother. Anyways, back to the story.
Lando is pretty different from Shellan. Instead of crowded sidewalks of people rushing to work, there are people lounging around without a care in the world. Well, I'm not here to relax, I'm actually hoping I can get a good job. My aunt and uncle work at the restaurant and they said the hotel is looking for young waitresses. I'm young, I can be nice to others, and I just have to get interviewed, piece of cake right?

Whew. That's a big hotel.
I walk into the lobby. A big desk against the wall where the guests check in, a few couches and a mounted tv.
There's a sign. The restaurant is to the right.
The workers here are pretty friendly.
"Aunt Jenn!" I dash into the room and hug her.
"Stella! Oh my. You are so grown up! How old are you now?"
"19. So, where's uncle Gil?"
"He's one of the cooks and he's busy right now. Anyways, I'm also working, so do you mind waiting here until my shift is over, which is in about 30 minutes. Why don't you greet the costumers?"
"Sure, no problem."
For a few minutes, I've been smiling and saying "welcome" and it's pretty fun seeing this many guests. Some are friendly and say thanks, while some just walk by and ignore me. I have to get used to interacting with different people if I have to become a waitress.
I check my phone and there's 10 minutes left. Thank goodness.
Someone stops in front of me.
"Excuse me, are you the host and why are you dressed so casually?"
A man in a business suit is speaking to me. Taller than me, almost 6 ft. Spiked up, silver hair, probably dyed because he doesn't look old. Also, blue-gray eyes. He looks so handsome and sophisticated. Maybe he's the manager.
"No, I'm waiting for my aunt to finish her work and I just wanted to greet the guests. She is in front of the restaurant entertaining the guests."
"I'm in charge of the hotel and we have a few openings. Would you like a job?"
"Yes sir."
"Neil Shredder. You can call me Mr. Shredder. But, sir isn't that bad."
"Your name is?"
"Stella Avalon. I have a question."
Mr. Shredder nods.
"What kind of jobs are you offering?"
"I'll decide after I interview you."
Is he crazy? I won't even know what I'm being interviewed for. How am I supposed to prepare?
"When is the interview?"
"Do you have time right now?"
"Now? Sure."
"Follow me Ms. Avalon."
I look over at Jenn. I guess I'll just call her after. I don't even know where I'm staying. It's getting late.
We walk into the elevator and he presses a button. The elevator is made of glass. I start to see the beach and the homes around as we go higher and higher. I take a few pictures with the point-and-shoot I always keep in my backpack. After a few stops, we make it to his office.
His office has a great view. He sits behind his table and I sit on one of the couches. The couch is comfortable and I'm not as nervous as I thought I would be. He's a little intimidating, but he's chill.
"Age?"
As he talks, he types on his laptop.
"19."
"Are you in college? What are you studying?"
"Well, I studied photography at Xaviers University, but I'm not studying anymore."
He's probably not impressed. What does photography have to do with a hotel and I don't even have a degree.
"What do you mean by that?"
"We are struggling with money, since my mom is in the hospital, so I'm here to find a job."
"Any work experience?"
"Well, I volunteered at the animal shelter and worked part time at Friars'."
"You lack educational background, but you do have work experience. How about being my assistant? You don't need education, You just need to follow me around and take care of my needs."
An assistant? Is he hiring me out of pity? Well, it's good to be close to the boss, but really an assistant?
"Sure. So, when do I start?"
Mr. Shredder pauses and types on his laptop.
"Tomorrow. Every weekday from 8am to 6pm. Come to my office. Ask the front desk for your uniform, I've already added you to the system. You may leave."
"Thank you sir- I mean Mr. Shredder."

I walk out of the office with his card and go down the elevator. I call my aunt.
"Where have you been?"
"I had an interview. While I was waiting for you, I met Neil Shredder. He said he was in charge."
"Neil Shredder! Oh my. How did it go?"
"Great. He said I have a job as his assistant."
"Oh wow. That's amazing. Not many of us can speak to him without him telling us to get back to work."
"Really? He seems cool."
"Maybe he's taking a liking to you."
"Don't be ridiculous. He looks at me like I'm insignificant."
"Uh huh. Anyway, come to floor 5, room 12. That's where we are staying."
"Okay."

The place has two rooms, one with a full sized bed and one with a twin sized. I'm staying in the twin sized, which I'm guessing is the guest room. There's also one bathroom and a balcony in the master bedroom. I drag my luggages into the guest room and put my clothes into the drawer. Man, mom would have loved the and the neat rooms.
Finally done. I changed from my tshirt and jeans into pajamas and jump on the bed. I'm actually excited for work tomorrow. Is it because of Neil Shredder? Don't get ahead of yourself, he's your boss and you don't even know him.
