Pacing

Pacing

Pacing across the old floorboard as it creaks against my armored feet. My wings flutter in distaste, I am annoyed. I am agitated. And I am worried. But I will never admit i am worried because I need to be nonchalant, I need to be ready.

But I am not.

The prince has slipped my grasp again. I swore to protect him, but how can i protect somebody who disappears so much? Tolkien grabs my shoulder. He's a soldier who's usually found in one of the many training rooms.

"If you keep pacing like that, you're going to end up making a hole in the floor." Tolkien joked. I would've laughed, really. But I couldn't muster anything up. I was too busy thinking about where his highness was.

Another knight walked into the room, "Well? Is there any news on the prince's whereabouts?" I said impatiently.

I'm the prince's knight.

The prince himself entrusted me with that position.

"We've found him at the front gate on horseback." Where the hell did he get a horse from?

I pushed past the knight, and Tolkien followed along as he excused himself from the other knight. My footsteps were heavy, goddammit the armor itself was heavy.

I never thought that it was humanly possible to be so annoyed yet worried about another human being before. That was until I met Danni, of course.

We made our way to the front gate, "DANNI!" I yelled. Danni jumped, falling off his horse. He winced but looked up to meet my gaze. Tolkien offered Danni his hand, pulling the prince up as Danni quickly dusted himself off, "Diz! Pleasant to see you?"

Danni has more authority over me, yet he never acts like he does. He acts as if we are equal. He acts as if we are friends. And I think I hate him for that.

But I don't really hate him. I could never really hate him.

"Diz, I'm sorry, I just- you can't expect me to stay in my room all day, can you?" Danni said. He wasn't acting very royal. He almost never does.

I sighed. It was a loud and obviously irritated sigh, "Your Highness, you have to realize that you ordered me yourself to keep you safe, but that isn't possible if you keep running off without me."
Danni raised an eyebrow before walking more into the castle grounds, "Well, maybe you just have to keep up."

He's childish.

And he's immature.

And one day, that's going to get him killed.
