The ‘bad boy’ and the most popular girl in school. It was certainly a sight to behold, lucky for them no one else would see it.
It was the middle of the day, a random Tuesday when such a phenomenon occurred. He was skipping, smoking a cigarette behind the school. She just wanted to get away from it all.
Kicking a rock, she made herself known.
“Hey, Cal right?” She questioned, leaning down a bit to be closer to him. He was crouched, scowling up at her.
“The fuck do you want?” Aggressive as always he snapped back.
“Just some company”
“I was looking for silence, so fuck off.” He knew her kind all too well, she was the kind to be nice and be terrible behind closed doors.
“You curse a lot.” She stated plainly as she sat down next to him, to which he quickly rose and started walking away.
“Hey wait-”
“Are you deaf or something? I said fuck off,” She stopped in her tracks, tears stinging at her eyes, but she didn’t cry.
“Why do you curse so much?”
“Because when I don’t, no one listens,”
“I’m listening…” He hesitated, and despite knowing he was making a mistake he waved her along, she happily accepted, appearing beside him.
“Where are we going?” She chirped, her hands laced together behind her as she walked alongside him, close enough.
“Just follow me, and hold on,” He took out his keys and she beamed. He was known for not letting people on his bike, only he knew it was because he didn’t have anyone he wanted to ride with. The wind blew fast around them as he rode, having only one helmet that went to her with minimal fuss. He was focused on the road, not really hearing what she was yelling about over the wind whistling past his unprotected ears.
They got to a stop light and lurched to a stop, her arms wrapping around him tight, falling from the air where they previously were.
He got butterflies, but no one would ever know that but him.
“You ok back there?”
“Yes yes, maybe pay attention more next time,” She teased, still yelling through the helmet. The rest of the ride was more of the same. When they finally got to wherever he was taking her, she took off the helmet after awkwardly climbing off the too-tall bike.
Her hair was very messy, to say the least, he chuckled at the sight. She smiled big.
“There's a smile, maybe I should mess up my hair more often,”
“Shut up,” He mumbled with the same smile as he got off to fix her hair the best he could. They were near the river, the dense forest not far.
He locked up his bike, prepping for the long walk to where he wanted to be, scoffing as he looked down at her delicate thin heels, which would definitely not survive the walk. What he didn’t expect was to be carrying her halfway through. Though he had to give her credit, she got fairly far without complaint, and as soon as she did he got on his knee and offered.
She was blushing hard, glad he was oblivious to it.
His hands didn’t wander, nor did his words, like it was strictly professional.
She was impressed, for someone with such a terrible reputation, he was being so sweet. Why?
Once they arrived where he wanted, he slowly put her down, slightly disappointed at the lack of her arms around him, but all he did when she thanked him was grunt in response.
She walked slowly to the small clearing he had led them to, a small voice in the back of her head worried about being so secluded, but a louder voice trusted him.
Maybe a gut feeling, or sheer stupidity but she didn’t run or scream for help. Staying silent, looking at the beautiful view above and all around, the small clearing like a little oasis.
“It’s…”
“Beautiful, yeah.”
“I'm sure you get that a lot,”
“Never brought anyone here,” He admitted casually, trailing his finger along the ridges of a big rock.
“You know… You aren’t that bad.” She teased with a soft smile.
“Neither are you.” He breathed, like he was scared to tell the truth.
“Cal?”
“Yes?”
“My name is Callie.”
“I know. Caleb, nice to meet you.” He held out his hand for her to shake, as if they were meeting for the first time.
