Derek looked down at his phone, which he had checked for the fifth time, and nervously bounced his leg. The werewolf's anxiety increased when Stiles pretended nothing had happened at school the night before. He had faith that the youngster would keep his word, but the smaller man had a habit of unintentionally disclosing information, particularly when he wasn't taking his medicine. The older man ran a hand through his hair and glanced down at the little lump of flesh. Anxiety mixed with excitement blazed in his cheeks. When Derek stared into Stile's eyes, the younger male gave the werewolf the courage to attempt, even though, if Derek was completely honest with himself, he wasn't sure whether he was ready to take on this new world. Derek's stomach growling snapped him out of his train of thought. He glanced at the small paper menu sitting on the nightstand next to him before shaking his head. Pushing himself from the bed, he grabbed his wallet and keycard before leaving the room.
Derek ended up in the midst of town, and as he strolled down the busy sidewalk, the werewolf's attention was drawn by the smell of cooking. The male gave the air a sniff, and his mouth began to drool a little, making the werewolf's stomach growl a little more. The older man put his palm on his belly and continued walking, following the smell, to a small cafe. Derek entered the cafe quickly, finding a booth in the back and shooting a text to Stiles before Derek glanced down at the menu. Derek knew he should only get what would satisfy him for a couple of hours until Stiles got out of school. But everything sounded and smelled so good. Whining softly, the male glanced down at his stomach, chewing his bottom lip. Shortly afterward, a waiter appeared next to him. "Hi, welcome to BlueMoon Cafe. What can I get started for you?" She quizzed.
Derek glanced down at the menu once more and asked, "What do you recommend?" He asked.
The woman smiled and said, "Well, we have a mean burger that comes with either tater-tots or fries. If you want something simple, we also have a pretty good BLT. Most people like our breakfast, though, and get our pancakes with toast and sausage links." She explained.
The werewolf was silent for a long moment, inhaling and then exhaling softly. "Can I get all three?" He quizzed.
The waiter stared at Derek for a moment, her smile widening. "Of course, do you want tater-tots or fries?" He asked, quickly jotting down the order on her pad.
The male felt his cheeks darken. "Would it be too hard to do both also?" He questioned.
The woman thought to herself for a moment, "It will be a few bucks extra." She said.
Derek quickly nodded. "That's fine." He replied.
Once the waiter finished writing down his order, she quickly scooped up the menu. "Great! I'll get your order in the kitchen right away, cutie." She said, winking at him before disappearing into the kitchen.
Derek drank slowly and aimlessly thumbed through his phone. After ten minutes, the server reappeared with his initial dish and placed the hefty burger before him. After expressing gratitude to the woman, the older man snatched up some french fries and stuffed them into his mouth. The bell above the door gently chimed as Derek was eating, but he ignored it and kept shoving fries into his mouth. "What are you doing here? I thought you had school." He quizzed himself, checking the time on his phone.
Stiles chuckled, swiping a tater-tot. "Half day due to parent-teacher conferences." He answered.
Derek rolled his eyes and gave a snort. "Shouldn't you be home then to come up with an excuse for the week you missed?" He enquired.
"I still have time; I would rather be here with you," Stiles smirked.
Derek stared at the younger male for a long moment, chewing the food in his mouth. "What about Scott?" He quizzed.
