I feel pain in my head. Feeling the throbbing attack my head. Pouring red liquid dripped from my socket as my eye rolled on the grassy ground. I lean back and fall. Feeling like my head is on fire. Caidan is yelling. He's attacking the cause of my pain with his damn bat. What will that do? Aggravate it more? I'm being picked up by my father, panic in his eyes as he ran. He laid me down on a wooden porch. It's warm... comfortable. Minutes passed and I could only feel my consciousness slide away from me.
Dreams... no. Memories. Blood- screaming- it all is so vivid. Too. Vivid. I flutter my eyes open. My bedroom...? The LED lights are set to low and red. Must've been trying to make it dark. Was I put in here? My bed feels more comfortable than usual. I groan audibly. My head is throbbing... "Urgh..." The door opens, and the light stings my eye. Alex walked in with some water, a snack, and a hand mirror. She smiled at me, and sat down beside me. "Hey... how you doing?" I shook my head and gestured to the water. She handed it to me. "What happened...?" She looked away, she seemed hesitant. "You got attacked-" oh yea... the memories flood to me quickly. "I assume my eye is still in the yard?" She nodded as I drank my water. "There was only so much we could do so we wrapped your head in a bandage to stop some of the bleeding.." I nodded. And took in the knowledge. Knowing this kinda startled me- My eye got ripped out of my head and I lived, how fun. I lift myself up and look at Alex. "Oh and a lot of the skin around your eye got ripped off... uh... so when your wound heals and we take off your bandage it'll uh..." I stopped her, and held up my hand. "I'll be fine- Is dad and Caidan alright?" She nodded, "Mikes in the shed, Caidan is in the living room talking to the others." I nodded and yawned. "Nana and Charlotte?" Alex helped me to my feet and held my arm gently, her eyes with worry and concern. "They're in the office- you shouldn't be standing-" She grabs my hand and leads me out of the room anyway. "We need to go get Rilee. She has weapons of her own."
Sam flinched and looked up, "Dumbass. Do you see the state you're in?! You're missing an eye! And we don't even know if it's safe!" I shrug, "We have gas to last two days. Me, Alex, and my dad will go out. You rest stay here with Charlotte and Nana. We'll leave the shotgun with you. Don't make too much noise. While me, dad and Alex are out, we'll get food and supplies." Phoenix let out a worried sigh, "Will you be alright? Your eye is kinda busted- you're gonna have difficulty with migraines and head pain..." I shrugged off the worried comment. "I'll be fine. I'm not gonna be the one driving. I'll be the navigator." Phoenix whined quietly, and stood up. "Please be careful... We can't lose you too." I looked down, they're right. But I need to find Rilee. "You won't. We'll be back by midnight. Alex, get the keys and get dad." She hurriedly made her way out of the living room, down the laundry room hall, and toward the back yard. I sighed tiredly. Holding my head with my hand, trying to keep myself from feeling the amount of pain in my skull. I groan quietly and turn around, walking to the counter and pulling out the drawer. Grabbing a pistol. "Caidan. You're in charge. Keep the doors locked, the windows shielded, and keep and eye out on the Wasteds outside." Caidan nodded "Alright." I nodded back at the three, and made my way out of the room and into the garage to get to the car.
Me, Alex and Dad started it up. Med-kits ready, water, and weapons.
Within minutes we were driving, and I was already feeling that pit in my stomach. My eyes tracing the outlines of trees, homes and bushes. Alex sighed, "So... where exactly did it run off with the ladies body...?" I lifted my head and glanced back at her in the backseat, and then looking back at my father. "It ran out through the forest behind the house when I shot at its eye." He replied, his tone tense. "Haha, an eye for an eye, am EYE right?" I snickered, trying to make the mood silly. Alex glared at me "How dare you. That was TEARABLE." She giggled herself, she may have thought it was bad but she was laughing again. Dad chuckled and joined in on the fun, "I love eye jokes as much as the next guy but don't you think these are a little too...CORNEA?" A few miles down the highway we pull off to the side. No cars were driving, either the cars were crashed or destroyed. As I stepped out, a twig snapped.
Phoenix stood in the living room, Sam sat on the countertop in the kitchen and Caidan sat on the floor of the living room. Silence. Phoenix peered through the window, checking if the coast was clear. "Remember the plan. If a Wasted gets too close to the house, Sam will QUIETLY go down to the office to warn Charlette and Nana, Meanwhile me and Caidan will get the shotgun and keep the door barricaded. Understood?" Caidan chuckled nervously, "Its odd to see you in charge like this Phoenix..." Phoenix huffed, moving their hand through their hair. "I don't trust you to be in charge! Azzy would be a bit skeptic with his opinion if he was thinking straight!"
They muttered. Caiden laughed, "You know that's hard for him, to think straight I mean." Sam jumped from his seat on the counter. "Do we even know if she's alive? Azrael could be chasing a ghost for all we know!" Phoenix sighed and shook their head. "She could be, even if she weren't... Az would still go out looking for her..." Everything went quiet until the sound of shattered glass sounded from the other room.
