"Jackie I have no idea what I've gotten myself into!" I paced around my room as I pressed the phone to my ear.

"Yeah bitch, I don't Either! Why would you do this? You got a death wish or something?" She yelled into the phone.

"Yes." I deadpanned as a joke. "No! But I just-" I groaned. "I mean a free trip to Amsterdam." I tried to reason.

"Oh, free trip to hell!"

I gasped. "Bitch, I am not going to hell."

"Mhmm, sure. We can ignore the big ass tapestry in your room."

"I just so happen to really like a band called Behemoth... nothing wrong with that." I joked with fake hesitation.

  "Satanist."

"Nuh uh. I smoked a cigarette so I'm like Lana del Rey core."

Jackie snorted out a laugh."Whatever, you better keep me updated. And when you come back I want every detail." I could hear her flop onto her bed.

"Girl, you know I will." I ran my hand through my hair.

"You get to see hot military men at least."

"Eh, not exactly my type." I chuckled as my phone was pressed warm against my ear.

"If you die I call dibs on all your vinyls."

"You're the only one I trust with them anyway."

I finished packing up my belongings. My Aunt Kate said to pack light. Like, really light. Only a backpack. She said to bring two outfits and any other toiletries I may need.

"(Y/n), we need to go!" Aunt Kate yelled from downstairs.

"Coming!" I yelled back down. My heart was already beating fast. I grabbed my bag and slung it around my shoulder before running down the dark wooden stairs that creaked with every step.

"Price and Gaz are already there. We have to be quick." She spoke as we walked out of the door.

Outside there were cars waiting. I followed my Aunt Kate into one. She made very little small talk with the driver who was a short skinny bald man.

We continued the drive when I realized we weren't going to the airport but a military base. I honestly don't know why I assumed otherwise. As we drove through the gates there were a bunch of people in military uniforms and armed.

  Maybe Jackie was right.

The car parked and we got out quickly. It was warm out but not unbearable. My Aunt Kate spoke with some people and I just stood quietly behind her taking everything in. I had never been to a military base so it was a lot to soak in.

It all happened so fast. One second I was looking around and the next I was in the air. I was sat next to my aunt Kate as she had ear buds in. She was staring at her laptop but I didn't understand anything that was happening on it. Eventually I put my earbuds in and played some music.

I'm normally one to sleep on a flight but with the added anxiety of me being a soldier I couldn't. I just stared out of the window. Not that I'd really call myself a soldier. The most exercise I've done all week was a bike ride to the mechanic.

The plane was smaller seeing that it was military. Eventually I saw land as we descended closer to the ground. I took out my earbuds and heard the captain talking but I was too busy with the question in my mind to hear him.

Everything else after that was a blur as well. It was dark out but the bright white lights illuminated the military base.

"We gotta go now. John and Kyle are waiting." My aunt spoke looking at her phone.

"Right now?" I asked. I didn't know what I was expecting but it was not this. I didn't think I'd be starting so soon.

"We will be at the location in ten minutes. You stay close by to see what you're getting into." Aunt Kate spoke quietly but with her usual flat tone.

——————-

I was sat with my Aunt as she spoke to Price and a man who went by Gaz. From what I understood they were in water swimming to the target.

From what I heard they were entering a barge after clearing out some people. I couldn't even imagine being in the water right now, must've been freezing.

My aunt was sat at her laptop as we waited for more information. That's when he heard Price say.

"Mexican cartel."

"Out here?" I said out loud, not even really meaning to do so.

"They are working with Hassan." My aunt told Price through the ear piece. I was wearing one as well but I didn't feel comfortable using it. Plus I had nothing to contribute to the conversation. All I could do is sit and wait. Occasionally hear the sound of gunfire coming through the com.

After about ten minutes Price spoke up again. Something about something happening in an hour. I couldn't quite hear because I kept dozing off.

Eventually she closed her laptop and stood up. "Let's go. Got a big day for you tomorrow." She said then began walking. I followed close behind.

"What's going on?" I asked as I did a little jog to catch up with her.

"Mexican cartel." Was all she responded with. I could tell she was planning something in her head so I didn't question further. I was just confused on why they were all the way here. But I suppose my question would be answered soon enough.

We made it to the base we were staying at and two men approached us. I recognized Price from pictures my Aunt had so I assumed the other man was Kyle.

"Got a lot to do tomorrow, Laswell." Price said with his gruff voice.

Why is his voice like that? It sounds painful. I asked myself but then two seconds later my question was answered as he pulled out a cigar and lit it. A nicotine addiction would do that.

"We do. And I have a plan for it."
