Chunky jumper. Chunky scarf. Chunky headphones. Doc Martens. All black. That was what I wore when I sat at the bus stop waiting for him. Seven, I thought. That was the seventh bus that drove past me. He still wasn't here.
He had a tendency for being late. I had a tendency of whacking him on the head when he did. But he also loved to talk and I also loved to listen. It wasn't a love-hate relationship. It was complicated. Like the weather. This morning, it was sunny, bow it was raining. He loved to hide himself behind his smile. I hated it but I loved it. He also got into moods. The 'no, I'm fine' Kind of moods. The 'it's not you, it's me' kind of moods.
Our relationship was complicated. But we loved it. What I didn't love was this song. When I removed my headphones, my ears were exposed to the reality of the world. The rain and the cars. Eight, I thought. Silly boy."Daph!"
I looked to my right to see that silly boy run under the bus shelter. I looked at him shake his hair like a wet dog before looking at me. "Wait! Lemme guess."
He made a 'serious' thinking face."Twelve buses!""Nope."
"Twenty seven!"
"Eight," I said, standing up.
"Soo... that's the lowest so far, right?"
I whacked his head and he winced and pouted. "That was the lowest this week, darling," I signalled the bus.
"At least you aren't wet!" he grumbled, hopping onto the bus before I could.
That's him. That's my love. But he was also the reason I had many grey hairs. Elias. "Don't look like that," he jeered, "Y'know I always take the window seat."
I smiled and kissed his nose. Partially to tease him and partially because I loved his freckled nose. "My lips are here dumb-"I kissed him. To shut him up. "Any stories?"
"Yes!!"
Then, he went on to rant about how throughout his rehearsal, this girl who wasn't in half of the time, kept on playing and how he was fighting the urge to break the violin on her head. "At least you calmed yourself down."
He hummed as I rested my head on his shoulder. The bus was quiet which made the ride more relaxing. "Daph?""What?"
"Nothing," he yawned, "I just wanted to hear your voice."
I smiled. Then it was silent again. "Daph?"
"Can we watch a movie when we get back?"
"No romance."
"No horror."
"Action will do," I said.
Elias nodded and looked out if the window. He started to tap his foot and stopped. "I'm bored."
I didn't respond.
"I guess I'll just stare at you."
And he did. The whole bus journey.
"Was my face that interesting?" I asked, whilst we were walking to my apartment. "Very," he smiled, "Everything about it is beautiful."
I scoffed. "Very original."He stared at me, "You're like a sun halo!"
"What?"
"Because you have divine beauty. And it's so wonderful that whenever you smile, people know how special you are!"
Now it was my turn to stare at him. "And guess what. You're all mine," he said, pulling me into a hug."You're mine," I whispered.
He chuckled, "You're making popcorn."
"You get a good movie."
He laughed. I looked at him. So precious. And he was all mine. I grinned. All mine. See that smile? Mine. See that body? Mine. See that wonderful, silly boy?Mine.
When we got home, Elias did his usual thing. Flop onto the couch and stretch his body on it. Then, he let out an exhausted sound and groaned. "Movie," he said, picking up the remote.
"Popcorn," I said, microwaving the popcorn. We loved movie night. It was an excuse to cuddle up and touch eachother. But we were both most excited for what was after. 'A passionate and tough sensual experience.' Mind you, I was drunk when I said that. And Elias took it very seriously. With the popcorn in my hand, I slouched on the couch next to him. "Interesting movie choice."
"I don't appreciate your sarcasm, miss."
He played the movie and snuggled closer to me, wrapping a blanket around us.The movie had ended and Elias laid so still that I thought he was asleep. That was until he rolled over to smile at me. Sexy golden eyes. "Do.. you remember?"
"I would be stupid if I didn't."
"Then get up the stairs and look as beautiful as you are now," he said in a husky voice.
Little did he know, I loved it. "And you?"
"I need to clean up."
I smiled at him. "Thanks, wife," I called, slapping his ass before going to our room. The LEDS in my room were perfect for setting a sexy mood. So, I picked a moidy red. I removed my chunky clothes and replaced them with a simple top and shorts. I tightened my ponytail and sat on my bed.
