i know rutger was drafted in 2022 but for the purpose of the story he will be drafted in 2023. It won't be that important, he'll still go eighth and to winnipeg.
School had been going really well, and now the hockey season was starting. Ellie had been having weight room and now they had their first practice in season. Ellie and Will had been spending more and more time together and both had a huge crush on the other, but still were too scared to do anything.
The girls had practice before the boys, but a few of them got to the rink early to watch, Will being one of them. The boys sat at seats in the middle of a section. A few of the boys had been picking on Will for his crush on Ellie.
"Which one is she?" Ryan asked.
"The one with the puck." Will told him and Ellie shot the puck, going bardown.
"Damn. She's insane." Cutter said
"Will, how do you feel about your girlfriend being better than you?" Fowler said
"Shut up. We're not dating." Will rolled his eyes.
The group he was sitting with all looked at each other and laughed at the embarrassed boy.
"We are going to their game tomorrow, right? Home opener." Ryan asked Will.
"Yeah, they're playing Clarkson, I think." Will told them.
"Yeah we know you're going to be there. You'll be at every game you can, Will." Cutter said, once again making fun of him.
"Oh, my god. You guys are so annoying." Will rolled his eyes as they got into the locker room.
"This is getting pretty bad. I mean, you guys hang out like, everyday and act like you're together but aren't?"
"Well- I mean, we're friends and I don't want to ruin that." Will said
"You give me a headache. Dude, just tell her." Ryan said
"No."
"So there is something to tell?" Ryan teased making Will roll his eyes and get his hockey gear on.
Ellie got off the ice and headed to the locker room, a few of the men's team walked past her with a smile on their face like they knew something she didn't and it confused her.
"So, when are you and Will going to get together?" Celia asked.
"Uh, we're not. We're friends."
"Yeah, yeah. You two flirt all the time."
"No we don't."
"Yes you do. It's this weird, awkward, nerd flirting and it's really cute and annoying. So just tell him you like him."
"No."
"You like him?"
"No."
"You just admitted it."
"You tricked me." Ellie said.
"So you would tell the truth. And the truth is you like him." Celia teased.
"Shut up. He doesn't feel the same way, so this crush thing just needs to pass."
"It won't. He likes you too. So tell him. Come on, Ryan and Teddy got together a week after they met and are one of the cutest couples on campus." Celia told the girl.
Both teams had been trying to get to get the two to admit their feelings for each other all year. It was so painfully obvious to everyone but them, apparently, which is driving them crazy.
"Just ask him to go on a date." Teddy told him.
The girls watched the boys practice, and then they went to dinner. Ellie sat waiting for Will at the table they always sat at. She had her computer out looking for g over notes, studying her quiz for the next day.
"Hey, you." Will said sitting down.
"Hi, practice good well?" Ellie questioned.
"Yeah, ready for our games next weekend."
"Good. Are you coming to my game tomorrow?" Ellie asked.
"Yeah, of course. Wanna get something to eat?" Will asked.
The two stood up and walked to the lines of food. Ellie grabbed a plate and put salad and pasta on it. Will followed behind her getting the same thing then they went back to sit down to eat.
"So, tomorrow's Friday...and I only have one class at noon. Do you want to go to the gym with me?" Ellie asked him. Will had already begun shoveling food into his face so he just nodded his head.
"Okay, I'm going at like, 8."
"I'll pick you up."
"It's walking distance, Will."
"Okay, we'll walk together." Will said, it wasn't anything crazy but it made Ellie like him just a little more.
The two sat in the dinning hall for a little longer before they decided to go back. Will walked her back to her apartment, then headed to his own. Both greeted by their roommate as soon as they walked in the door.
They were told the same speech as well. Basically their roommate was trying to convince them to admit their feelings, but neither were going to. Which annoyed the crap out of their roommates because now they had to listen to them talk for hours and hours.

Ellie fell asleep really easily that night, well, after she was laying g in bed for an hour thinking about Will. She liked him, but she's terrified to ask him out on an official date. Because what they've been doing, the hanging out, the talking everyday, makes her think he likes her. But how can she be sure?
