"Please tie the mangalsutra around the girls neck." The priest said over the noise.
What is this? I imagined Arun as my husband. Not some random NRI. Even he doesn't seem too happy with the marriage. I noticed that he kept on looking at his phone as if waiting for his girlfriend to call him.
"You are now married." The priest hollered. I didn't even notice Rajesh tying the mangalasutra around my neck. Now, I'm married. I can't go back to Arun.
The Next Day:
"Have a safe flight Rajesh and Anu!!" Mom and Dad hollered from the other side of the gate.
Today, Rajesh and I are going to USA. That's where Rajesh lives and since I'm now married to him, I have to go with him.
We finish our immigration, baggage check, and head towards the place we have to stay before our flight departs.
"Do you want something to eat?" Rajesh asked as we sat down on the seats. I looked around to see what restaurants were nearby. Subway and KCF.
"No thank you. I'm fine." I replied while nodding no.
"You don't have to be that formal with me. Think of me as your friend."
"A friend? But we don't even know each other, and we are husband and wife, not friends." I said grumpily.
"True, how about I introduce myself and pretend I don't know you."
"Fine" I said disinterestedly.
"My name is Rajesh and I live in USA and I just married yesterday."
"My name is Anuradha, Anu for short. I live in India and I just got married yesterday also."
We chatted the entire time during the wait time and the entire flight time. I think it's safe to say I became his friend by the time we landed in USA.
1 Month Later:
"Bye Anu! Get ready for the party by the time I come home today." Rajesh shouted while leaving for office.
It's been a month since we got married and I got adjusted to lifestyle. Rajesh is a really sweet guy and he's really caring. I told him about Arun and he totally supports me. We still haven't consummated our marriage as we want to wait for a while to know each other.
Suddenly the phone began ringing.
"Hi mom" I said after looking at the caller id.
"Hi Anu, What are you doing?"
"Nothing much maa, Rajesh just left for office and I'm making breakfast for myself."
I talked with mom for a while before setting the phone down.
Then the phone rang again. It was a unknown caller.
"Anu?"
It was Arun.
